I didn't sign any contract to watch commercials. Next they well tell you that you have to watch all the shows too.

And I'm still going to go to the can or fridge when I feel like it. The DMCA has got to go. This is just nuts.

Your contract with the network when you get the show is you're going to watch the spots.

Am I guilty of theft when I get up to take a piss during commercials or go to the fridge to get a drink?

Am I guilty of grand larceny when I change channels during commericals in an attempt to watch 3, 4, or 5 shows at once?

DMCA and its spawn-of-Satan cousins is some of teh worst law ever formulated. Basically, it codifies allowing Hollywood to hack your computer and makes a felon out of you for trying to stop them. DMCA supporters are EVIL.

Any time you skip a commercial or watch the button you're actually stealing the programming."

SHEESH, so when I hop into the shower during commercials I'm also stealing?? These network people are sheer idiots.

Then following that line of logic it's also stealing when I change the channel and watch another show to avoid the commercials.

I almost hope they make a case out of this, it'd make me read more which is something I should be doing anyway.

I suppose we could have a toilet installed in the den or wherever we watch TV. You could disguise it as a regular chair. Are we stealing if we channel surf during the commercial? What if your mind wanders--would that be stealing?

"When asked if he considers people who go to the bathroom during a commercial to be thieves, he responded: 'I guess there's a certain amount of tolerance for going to the bathroom. But if you formalize it and you create a device that skips certain second increments, you've got that only for one reason, unless you go to the bathroom for 30 seconds. They've done that just to make it easy for someone to skip a commercial.' Heaven forbid"

LOL...mighty white of him to "allow" me to go to the bathroom during the commercial break.

Now: when they can create and enforce a law which will prevent me from jumping up and checking on supper, checking/filling the woodstove, or continuing with reading whatever book I'm reading (the only way to watch TV, as far as I'm concerned, is with a good book) THEN they might also be able to prevent me from not watching hundreds of simpleminded commercials for Viagra, hemorrhoid preperations, yeast infection cures and tampon commercials a day.

Not bloody likely, though.

This post at least deserves a wry humor BUMP

The reasoning is so absurd it should be given wide publicity, with all of the reductio ad absurdam examples anyone can think of. Ridicule is the best weapon against this.

This low life thief flies his corporate jet just to avoid the bridge and turnpike tolls, and I'll bet he avoids paying his housemate for services rendered.

How about a law requiring remote controls that only work in the first 5 minutes of the hour.
Or TV's with no channels. you need to sign up with a network first to buy one.
Ooh, I know, how about a law that requires us to attend a camp for commercials every year. They can monitor our viewing, and that will decide how much time we spend at the camp.< /sarcasm> (sarcasm "end block" included to be sure that I don't give anyone any ideas)

Don't leaf through that magazine, either, Buster! I saw you skip those 5 pages of anti-smoking, automobile, and Tampax ads!

If this is seen as a "problem," expect legislation forbidding any device that allows consumers to skip the sacred commercial

I guess they'll try to outlaw remote controls.

Actually, the reverse is the case. The broadcaster's TV waves have been entering the transistors and printed circuits of my TV, without my permission, for years. I am entitled to punitive damages for trespass. This is especially true for CNN, since their TV signal has no socially redeeming value.

I don't remember signing a contract with the network.
If I had I would have put a salary clause in it.
So, if they say I have a contract with them, where's my salary?
I WANT COMPENSATION!
