7-Year-Old Charged With Felony for Pencil Stabbing

ANTHONY, Fla. (AP) - Police have charged a 7-year-old with felony aggravated battery after he allegedly stabbed four elementary school classmates with a pencil.

No one was seriously hurt during Tuesday's incident about 70 miles north of Orlando, police said.

The Anthony Elementary School student was taken to the Marion County Juvenile Assessment Center and will likely be expelled from the school for the rest of the year, sschool district spokesman Kevin Christian said.

The boy began yelling during class after he was asked to share his crayons, police said. The 7-year-old then began chasing students and stabbed a classmate in the back, causing a puncture mark.

The boy also stabbed three other children, causing red marks, authorities said.

"Everyone went ballistic," Kristin Irvin, the substitute teacher overseeing the class, told the Ocala Star-Banner. "All the other students were afraid of him. He was making threats."

The boy said he stabbed his classmates because he "didn't like them," police said.

Earlier in the morning, school officials said the boy had taken his medication, Irwin said. She didn't know what kind of medication the boy was taking.

The boy's mother declined comment Wednesday.

The boy has had discipline problems in the past but has never attacked other students, school officials said.

The state Department of Juvenile Justice will decide how the student's trial will be handled, said Chief Assistant State Attorney Ric Ridgway.

In January, an 8-year-old boy at another Marion County school, Fessenden Elementary, was arrested after school officials said he stomped on his principal's toe.

This is what happens when you have to put the paddle away and rely on lawyers.

You can lock them up in jail but using a paddle on them would be cruel.

Lord knows how many dead we'd have on our hands if the system hadn't seen fit to drug him into zombiehood.

We need tougher legislation! Safety locks on pencils! The NRA won't get away with this one!

This kid doesn't need psychotropic drugs.
He doesn't need counseling or a therapist.
He doesn't need to be charged with a felony - for cryin' friggin' out loud!
What this kid needs is a good spanking!
If he had been getting spankings all along, he wouldn't be in this mess.
The parents (both of them) should be the ones in trouble for messin' up this seven-year-old.

He who spares the rod hates his son,
he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

This is what happens when you force an end to segregation, despite the desires of all involved.

What does this have to do with anything

"....What this kid needs is a good spanking!...."

Exactly. I have 6 children, never had to raise a hand to any of them....except one.

That ONE, as you can well guess, simply has a mind of his own and is extremely headstrong. We went through the whole teacher/Ritalin thing (horrible decision...took him off after 2 years, thank God).

What he really needed was a good old fashioned trip to the woodshed...which he got.

Today (5 years after the woodshed) he's a great kid. And yes, he's a little afraid of me. But that's OK. We all need to submit to some type of authority, either in this life or the next. My son was totally fearless.

I think God ordained parental control as his extension of an orderly universe.

Either the parents - or the police.
Children of parents who "spare the rod"
will not be spared by the police and the court system when they grow up.

... Do you know something about this incident that the rest of us don't?

Hey, now - Tabby's doing a lot better these days than she used to. This is the second post of hers in as many days where she didn't manage to tie the thread into abortion somehow. Must be some new meds...

I kid because I love.... ;)

And yes, he's a little afraid of me.

It's good to be a little of someone who ...

... is responsible for your existence

... is bigger than you

... is older than you

... provides for your every need

... provides some of the things you want

... has the responsibility of helping you develop into a responsible adult

... is responsible for supporting you for approximately 20 years

... etc.

You are all missing the bigger picture. The article clearly states that the class was being supervised by a substitute teacher! I´m only 20, so my days of elementary schools subs were not long ago . . . they never have ANY control! Haven´t any of you ever read the great kids´ book, ´´100 Ways to Sink a Sub´´? I think it´s 100 . . . I can´t really remember. But anyway, it´s a great book.
