Very interesting article. Extremely balanced. One one hand it captures the excitement and beauty of shooting sports and the appreciation of firearms, and at the same time it exposes and elaborates and explaines the deepest fears of the gun contol crowd.

I'm not sure if it's interesting or annoying.

Just replace the subject with "cars" and little changes: from the impassioned collector, to the crook seeking tools for felonies, to the 30,000+ dead attributable to the tool, there is little difference except popular sentiment.
