And so you're suggesting that we need to raise their taxes. When some can't afford those tax attorneys anymore because you've helped to confiscate even more of their earnings, then what? Not every large corporation is in great financial shape, sir. Further decreasing their assets will lead to some business failures. Why must Congress delegate itself the power to influence what is properly left to the marketplace? All you can possibly accomplish with increased taxation is decreased productivity from those corporations. This also leads to fewer jobs and fewer pay increases. Some companies will inevitably fail because of it. This is not desirable.
New loop holes and tax breaks will continue to emanate from Washington, DC. Congressmen listen to those who contribute most to their political campaigns. They are not going to cut off the money flow.
And you're asking us to send you to be part of that group? With the inevitability of more loopholes and tax-based social engineering already firmly entrenched in your mind? I think conservatives would much prefer closing those loopholes, taking the social engineering power of taxation out of Congress' hands, and elect those who have the moral fiber to resist such lobbyist temptations. (I don't mean to imply that you lack such fiber... it just goes with your statement about the 'money flow' and contributions.)
Again, I agree with virtually all of your other position statements on your website, but worsening the already unjust, massive, inconvenient, and controlling tax system is a HUGE red flag for me. Fortunately for you, Clay Cox doesn't even bother to mention his beliefs on his web page, so you're still my favorite for the new seat. I just hope you change your mind on taxes.
You then wrote, "I would not worry about overtaxing large corporations or the wealthy. As long as they can afford to hire tax attorneys or accountants, the gravy train will continue." I would suggest you DO worry about over-taxing anyone, whether they are a citizen or a company.
Also, those non-welfare assets of theirs are earned in the dog-eat-dog business world. It's no 'gravy train' when you are forced to hire tax attorneys and accountants who are the only humans left with the resources to understand (most of) our tax laws. As long as they are following those laws that our Conrgresspersons write, then it is proper for the companies to hire them and use their knowledge of the tax code to pay the lowest amount that those laws allow.
As a (hopefully) future Congressman yourself, I hope and pray that you'll help overhaul, revise, and rewrite that tax code so that those tax attorneys and accountants are no longer necessary for companies and individual taxpayers to pay as little as possible. Close ALL of the loopholes, lower the tax rates on everyone, and limit Congresional spending. PLEASE!
It's OUR money, and it is disgusting to realize that Congress and the IRS make it as difficult as possible for us to recover what they confiscate from us.
One more thought: Thanks for responding to me. Many politicians wouldn't have the courage to basically debate their own supporters in a public forum. Make sure to add 'gutsy' and 'accessible' to your bio on your webpage. =^)
