Fellow Freepers,
Much as I loathe race being a factor in elections (me being a firm believer in the concept of a colorblind constitution) we need to try and get these black Republicans elected to the House. Let's face it, our Republican Conference Chairman is not enough to stand shield against Democrat racial arson attacks.
The only person I think it's practically impossible for is Coit (the new 13th). The rest are very well within reach. If anyone here has any contacts at all with the White House, Bush should come or send one of his big dogs over to assist these guys. They're all Conservatives, minus Buster, who I haven't forgiven for his sabotage of Schundler ... but at least he'll be better than Rush Holt; the man has no primary opposition. Also, apart from the fact that they're Conservatives, the tactical advantage that would be gained by their election would be well worth it.
Al Gore, Sr., together with the rest of the southern Democrats, voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Congressional Quarterly reported that, in the House of Representatives, 61% of Democrats (152 for, 96 against) voted for the Civil Rights Act as opposed to 80% of Republicans (138 for, 38 against). In the Senate, 69% of Democrats (46 for, 21 against) voted for the Act while 82% of Republicans did (27 for, 6 against). All southern Democrats voted against the Act. In his remarks upon signing the Civil Rights Act, President Lyndon Johnson praised Republicans for their "overwhelming majority." He did not offer similar praise to his own Democratic Party
I agree it would be better if we didn't have to pay attention to race at all, but we aren't quite at that point yet. I would love to see some more black Republicans become more prominent across the country. I am so tired misinformed view of Republican/conservitave meaning racist.
Thanks
Not my district (I'm the 13th, Menendez :( ), but will will check with a few friends who might be in the 12th.
Utah has its primaries on the 25th of June, where Wilkinson has three Primary opponents for District 2 i.e. John Swallow, Merrill Cook, Gary Stephens and Tim Bridgewater.
Colorado holds its primaries on the 13th of August where Joe Rogers has no Primary opposition for District 7.
Georgia holds its primaries on the 20th of August, where William Coit has one Primary opponent for District 13, i.e. Clay Cox.
Nevada has its primaries on the 3rd of September, where Lynn McDonald has no Primary opposition for District 1.
Excellent web site, by the way...
Williams Core Beliefs
(at the bottom)
(My answer on the poll would be: "other"... adhereing to Constitutional principles.)
but...
you lose me (and probably many other FReepers) here: (Ask William a Question: "What would you cut?")
Second, I would remake the tax code to shift the burden of responsibility from the middle-class to the wealthy and large corporations. I would work to eliminate the loop-holes that allow the wealthy and large corporations to circumvent the system and pay little or no taxes. This is unfair. An economic stimulus package should begin with those individuals who would most likely spend the savings from tax breaks. This would spur economic growth. Third, I would prioritize government spending. Just like you and I have a budget for our home. Government should determine what areas are most important and focus our spending on that. My top 4 area would be: 1. Defense spending 2. Education 3. Protecting Social Security 4. Economic Development

(I'll post my reply to your answer on that site, if that would be acceptable to you)
I've also seen the district's stats; not good. But definitely winnable ... provided you fight like crazy; which I've no doubt you're doing. Here's to praying that you pull it off. Bret Schundler, Winsome Sears and Scott Walker come to mind.
Good luck. I'm certain you'll make us proud.
Shifting an even GREATER burden on the upper income brackets is not a good idea. The top 50% already pay 95% of all income taxes! Additionally, those with greater incomes are typically the ones who create jobs, wealth, and opportunities. Since you're already taking away the corporate welfare, you hit those same (already over-taxed) producers with yet another tax increase. This does NOT spur economic growth. This furthers the division between the classes (those who are taxed HEAVILY, and those who are not taxed at all... not exactly equal representation). This also brings us closer to the nightmare reality that those who pay no taxes will make up the voting majority, and will out-vote those who do pay the taxes. We should be running away from the Marxist model, not promoting it.
Your prioritization includes education and protecting social security. Despite my career choice, I think that the federal government should adhere to the Constitution, and leave education to the state and local levels of government. Finally, the social security Ponzi scheme doesn't need protecting, it needs an absolute overhaul.
I'm think that the majority of conservatives would agree with those points.
