"If you take a thousand-page book about World War II, the concentration camps would take up two pages and the gas chambers would take up 10 to 15 lines. That's what I call a detail."

It may be insensitive, but isn't that a factual statement? I have read a lot of books about world war II, and very few discuss the holocaust. I would bet that if you took all the books written about WW2, that for most, the holocaust would generate only a few lines of discussion. We just don't know the context here. LePen could have been talking about WW2, and then asked a detailed question about the holocaust, to which he gave the above reply which is just saying "I don't know that much about it".

"I have spent seven years of my life at sea; I have sailed the oceans and stared at an infinitesimal part of the billions and billions of stars in the heavens. My beliefs are simple ones. I believe in the nation and the family. Together with the nation, the family is the crucible for what little possibilities there are for human happiness. Society must have certain fundamental values or else there can be no personal development. "

If an estimated fifty million died in WWII, and 6 million of them were Jews who died in the Holocaust, then the Holocaust should take up 5-10% of the book, not .2 percent

Assuming that history books should have quotas like that, finbe. Note however, that LePen did not say that the holocaust "should" be a detail in books about WW2. He said that it "was" a detail. Is it inconceivable that someone could have that perspective?

I have probably read thirty books about WW2 in my life, and I would say that in at least 75% of them, the holocaust is only mentioned a few times. I am not saying this is right or just, I am saying that is what I have read.

If the books were about the military history, the Holocaust was not extremely relevant to that. But if they were attempting to cover the war as a whole, and focused on other civilian casualties, they should have covered the Holocaust in the same detail.

I don't think it's so much about quotas (I was just throwing that figure out as a possibility) as it is about relative importance. Six million Jewish civilians are about as important as seven million Russian civilians, they should receieve equal coverage.

It's very strange to say the gas chambers should only receive 10-15 lines of text in a 1000-page book purporting to cover the whole of WWII.

No, he was talking about an imaginary book, if he were to write a book about WW2, that's how it would be.

The hypersensitivity about *anything* having remotely to do with the concentration camps will inevitably lead to the diminishment of sympathy for 'those people' in the eyes of the rest of the world.

I recently read an article where there was an outcry because some country or other, I think it was Hungary, opened a "Holocaust Museum" that, *gasp*, actually made reference to other (i.e. some not affiliated with Nazi actions) attempted genocides and mass slaughters as "Holocausts." The outcry was that doing so 'Diminished the particular significance of the attrocities involving the Jews.'

Such whining arrogance and self-absorption tends towards becoming loathesome when you come to realize that they'll never stop talking about "it".

Except Eric Margolis. Last Sunday he wrote in the Toronto Sun:

Le Pen told me, "Jews have conspired to rule the world through their power over international finance. They are using their influence over government and media to promote mixture with lesser races and corrupt the purity of Europe's blood. The Jews created communism and tried to use it as a means of world domination. Today, 'the Jewish conspiracy' is using race rather than communism to advance its goals."

On May Day, 10,000 students from a Jewish group marched in the streets against Le Pen. Why do you think they don't want Muslim immigration stopped?

Why don’t the Jews want Muslim immigration stopped? Don’t you know?

You’re so funny Larry, you just can’t tell the truth, or paste an entire paragraph honestly can you, just have to work on your agenda. As RR said, “There you go again”. Here’s the link, LE PEN EARTHQUAKE IN FRANCEhere’s the entire paragraph, I’ll highlight what you left out. You do Carville and Emanuel credit, did you train under them? Do you think all freepers, except your chosen few, are stupid? But in his more relaxed moments, Le Pen's views become far more extreme. It’s not so bad that Margolis called him extreme, you’re feelings shouldn’t be hurt. You shouldn’t be afraid to let freepers read those words. Just because your source thinks Le Pen is an anti-semite, that's not so bad.

But in his more relaxed moments, Le Pen's views become far more extreme. He is an equal-opportunity anti-semite. Le Pen despises both Arabs and Jews. Le Pen told me, 'Jews have conspired to rule the world through their power over international finance. They are using their influence over government and media to promote mixture with lesser races and corrupt the purity of Europe's blood,' claimed Le Pen. 'The Jews created communism and tried to use it as a means of world domination.' Today, 'the Jewish conspiracy' is using race rather than communism to advance its goals.'

BTW, I think you’re a bigot.

Le Pen has a long track record, mostly in French, much of it old (pre internet, harder to find)

Most of his FR supporters forget that these racial biases of his would be legislated. Higher pay for racially pure French, better housing, etc. And we're talking citizens here, based on their background, not immigration.

The recent success of Jean-Marie Le Pen has provoked an outpouring of rage from all the usual left wing suspects, and astonishingly, from some Jews. Justin Raimondo seems to be the only one to see the irony in this.

Justin Raimondo seems to be the only one... Jew or what? If you mean, he's the only one to see an irony in whatever, I wouldn't believe it. The guy is an absolute shit-for-brains lefty pseudo-intellectual.

As to the "some Jews" raging against Le Pen, they're plain idiots, same as Raimondo. No ethnicity or religion is able to prevent this disease.

If you think that's bad, Le Pen's "right-wing" are Third Position Yockeyites.

Visualize Willis Carto as the conservative wing of the Republican Party and you'll get what I mean.

Le Pen wants to stop Arab immigration – thus he is an anti-Semite!

Strictly looking, he is - since the Arabs are also Semites.

But too much strictness often leads to absurd. Anyway, Le Pen's dislike of Jews doesn't offend me. It's a prejudice, not a crime, and not the only one to be found around. I don't demand all the people to like me just because I'm a Jew.

What I'm really pissed off by, is by the hypocrisy of the (French, and not only) Leftists, whose silence when the synagogues were burnt was deafening. Only when Jospin's ass was kicked by Le Pen did it occur to them to defend Jews. Mind you, not from the Muslim perpetraitors of firings and bombings. Many of this third-worldists continued to sport their checkered Arab diapers during the rallies "in support of the Jews"!

"Why do we consider England a natural ally?"......Could it be because Washington, Jefferson, Adams, etc. were Englishmen? Have you noticed that Americans speak English?

My understanding is that the National Front's program would give preferential treatment to "the French." As far as I know, French Jews would be included in this favored group. Do you have any evidence to the contrary?

In our revolution and again in 1812 we were fighting as allies of France against the hated British!

And from 1798 to 1801 we were fighting...........the French.

The French people and government are longer allies of the United States of America.

This is what I think exactly. I am really angry that they denied the United States use of French air space in operation Desert Storm. There are some French patriots who we can trust, but the Leftist Internationale among them (their government) are no better than the Fascists, National Socialists, and Soviet Socialists when it comes to the well-being of the United States.

If LePen wins, we may have a friend in France again...
