I hope she wins her lawsuit and the Miami-Dade County government is gutted as a result.

Howard Finkelstein, 7News Legal Expert, says "The Florida Constituion says that English is the official language of the government. So you can't fire someone simply because they don't speak Spanish and you can't fire them simply because they are Anglo. That's discrimination. That's illegal."

The Florida Constitution is obviously an outdated, racist, sexist, discriminatory document, the provisions of which can obviously only be looked at in an historical context. So there, you racist pig, nyaah-nyaah-nyaah!

"Now her question: can an Anglo be fired for not speaking Spanish on the job?"

Therre are legitimate jobs within the government that can require people to be bi-lingual, or even multi-lingual.

Being bilingual couldn't possibly have been a requirement for her job when she was hired, she wouldn't have lasted all those years on the job. If the job qualifications changed to require bilingual employees, she should have been offered a transfer.

If the story is as she is telling it, her supervisor should be fired.

Having said that, I will tell you that people whom I have fired in the past claimed to never, ever having done anything that justified their being dismissed...or at least that was the story they told the unemployement board.

Bi-lingualism is now a job requirement in Dade County, Fl. How long before it's nationwide?? I don't think I'm being alarmist!! Just a realist....

Sounds like a familiar story.

I'm regularly called "Houseboy" or "Uncle Tom" by mexicans here in San Diego, simply because I'm a black conservative.

Seems the "all inclusive" demonRAT party has a low tolerance for anyone who disagrees with their warped ideological views.

Lies, obfuscation, denials of criminal behavior, slander, physical threats, the re-defining of basic grammatical concepts, politically corrected language, disinformation, hysterical ravings, revised history, verbal bullying are all pressed into the liberal's service under the rubric of "free speech." From behind this shield, every vile and unethical language crime may be perpetrated on behalf of the leftists' agenda. Bile, venom, vitriol, and even racism are not hate speech if perpetrated by a demonRAT.

I pity them.

Miami-Dade County

Ah, the county where CPS has misplaced a 5 year old for over a year and where they can't count votes .... in any language.

If this was any place other than Dade County I wouldn't believe that a boss would be stupid enough to put it in writing that an employee learn to speak Spanish.

Too bad that nothing will happen to the simpleton who wrote the letter and his "supervisors" for causing thousands of taxpayers dollars to be paid to this woman to settle her case.

Oh great. It's bad enough when I go to the fast-food drive-ins and they can't understand me when I ask for french-fries. Soon I'll have to speak Spanish to order them. 'Cause all the government workers talk Spanish, so why shouldn't everyone! (sarcasm)

A young man is looking at the want ads, the job seems to be perfect for him, then as he gets to the bottom of the ad, and it states, "must be bilingual". This is happening right before our eyes. Job after job is being lost, and English speaking Americans are the big losers.

Don’t believe me. Look at the want ads in the Los Angeles Times, the Orange County Register, and any of the big city newspapers and all over the country. Take a look at Monster.com, the giant of on-line job listing for the entire country. Start reading all of the ads. You will be shocked, as you wont qualify for many of them because you don’t speak the right language!

Construction foreman better speak Spanish so they can attempt to communicate with the workers. Insurance claims representatives, people that work in court houses, in social services, police, human resources, sales people, city employees, dispatchers, retail clerks, Department of Motor Vehicles, and on and on and on.

And it’s getting worse folks! And it’s not just Spanish, they are looking for Vietnamese, Chinese, applicants etc etc.

Why are our so-called leaders catering to these foreigners and illegal aliens. Why are we being sold out in our own country? Don’t they realize that if this continues, it will be like a domino effect. Once you start this, there is no return.

There is no longer any damn incentive for any of these people to learn English.

Why can’t these foreigners learn to speak English? Why do many of them have no desire to learn English? Could it be that they no longer need to? Maybe I am crazy, but when I am in public, or in a working situation or even at the market, I find it extremely offensive to have people stand several feet from me carrying on a conversation in a foreign language, on a routine basis.

And its getting down right dangerous, when you need to communicate with someone in a potentially dangerous situation, and they just stand their with the deer in the headlights look.

It's getting crazy, as our politicians and so-called leaders are now even giving speaches in foreign languages, thinking this is cute or in a sick attempt to gain votes.

We are being sold down the river. If this does not stop, this country will become a tower of babble.

English is the thread that holds this country together and we are losing it fast.

Think of your kids. Are they going to demand that they learn Spanish or whatever language to survive? Why can’t they learn our language? Is there an agenda here? Many of these people come here and wave foreign flags, celebrate their own holidays, and now, refuse to even learn English because the job they just got, didn’t require it.

Must be bilingual, English only need not apply.

Move along, nothing here to see. Jorge Boosh and his advisors want votes, and your job is a small thing to sacrifice in order to get them.

Sounds like Miami-Dade County doesn't have any Domestic Abuse situations in which the language of English is necessary, and they want to keep it all in the familial when cousin Juan beats the c**p out of Juanita, or sexually abuses his daughter,or son. What is needed is just what MissAmericanPie complained about earlier. Calls to D.C. protesting illegal immigration. Have called numerous times myself, and its pretty funny when the people answering agree with my point of view 100%, so I know the message is getting there. That fact was noted on GOPUSA.com poll results from last week. Need to keep reminding them over and over lest they forget. That is a tactic the 'illegal interest' lobby uses. Loss of a career after putting in that much time is a drag. We've all been there or will be at sometime. I worked for Juvenile Probation some 30 plus years ago, and it depressed the h**l out of me,just could not continue contact with the horrific things that adults did to children. Even at that time, the worst was done by the Hispanic community to their kids. Appalling.

IF being bi-lingual was a requirement for the job, then why didn't anyone - her supervisor or a co-worker - try to help her learn the language? It seems their attitude toward her was so spiteful they would rather have driven her out than be a friend and help her to do what it took to maintain her position. It appears that no one it that office was her friend.

Otherwise, she should sue the City and win BIG. Enough to send a message that you don't treat people like this and get away with it.

I thought cubans had assimilated and become citizens of the united states? Looks like this could be a problem in the future.

I think that Zita just won herself a new home, new car and possibly enough to not have to work again - ever.
