Chavez was very Catholic although liberal in his politics. He was NOT a communist. As Pope Pius XII said in 1948: "The servants of God cannot sit down and sup at the same table as the servants of the devil. Therefore no person who even votes communist much less one who is a communist may be a Catholic."
