This is one of the most inspired ideas I've seen in quite a while!
I'll take mine -- from the North Slope. Once I've got clear deed, my first call is to Exxon|Mobil.
And no, I'm not selling the land to them. I'm leasing drilling rights to them -- for 10% of their gross take...per year...independently audited annually...by someone other than Arthur Andersen...
I'm glad you like it. Feel free to take it and run with it. It is not by any means my only fairly cogent idea. We can work together to develop several interesting concepts I have thought through, and others that I have heard here.
A friend of mine, on this very forum -- Southack, by name -- has developed the idea of 'political judo'. Never confront your ideological enemy directly; merely redirect his force to a place you want him to go.
While I may disagree with him only in the Second Amendment sphere -- that one needs direct confrontation -- I have used this concept to postulate several interesing 'judo throws' to some very vexing problems.
We should, and I believe we have, join forces. It is already clear to me you possess a prodigious mind.
You're 110% correct on that one. The Jacksons of the world break their collective necks to make sure that reparations is on the tongues of everyone, but don't do a darned thing about the poor educational opportunities, especially in urban areas. The public school systems are full of teachers who don't care if their charges do well or not, just as long as they sit down and shut up. That isn't the way to reach someone you are trying to teach.
We call our Jeep Wrangler our "little mule."
there are 650 million acres of Federally owned land. That is about 30% of the total.
Since there are about 40 million blacks in America, we can't give each of them 40 acres.
What I suggest instead is to have them trace back their lineage (on their dime) to the time of slavery. If the family can PROVE they had an direct ancestor that was a slave at the end of the Civil War (when the promise was supposed to have been made), they can divide the 40 acres between the decendents.
By the time they figure it all out with the overlapping claims (what if you have two or more ancestors, what if one slave has 500 or 1000 descendents?) it will be ridiculous. Toss in the caveat that if the land is not homesteaded within 2 years of the granting of the land it returns to the Federal Government, and you have a real carnival on your hands.
Hey, it is nothing more than what they were promised in the first place. We could even toss in the mule for them to share.
I kind of chuckled and asked her, you mean your family with the 200 some-odd folks we see at Family Reunion every year? She says, "Yep. We all get to share the 40 acres."
I asked her, you want to start a new kind of "Family Feud?"
She shrugged a little. "Hey, why not?"
Excellent article, by the way. Did you know Jackson got his start by promising dramatic improvements in education ... and then used most of the grant money to line his pockets? Embarassing. It's even more embarassing when you see that people listened to him for so long, and some do to this day.

Thanks!
Jesse's "Operation Breadbasket" was supposed to help with education and feeding people in the inner cities of America. Well, Breadbasket ultimately became Operation PUSH, and finally the PUSH/Rainbow Coalition. The sad thing was that there were many things that he put forth early on that were ultimately good, and extensions of Dr. King's overall work. But Jesse's true colors gradually came out, and we were left with the creature that we have to play with today. Too many people are following him and his ilk like lemmings, and they refuse to stop and think for a moment just how inane and stupid he (and they when parrotting him) sound!
I occasionally see Jackson turn to conservative themes of self-reliance, education and independence, which makes his hard left "blacks are owed a living" theme all the more disquieting.

Those are the themes that Operation Breadbasket emphasized! The idea was to help people help themselves up by their own bootstraps! The gist was to help teach people skills that would help them move forward.
Then (to parhaphrase an old Porsche ad), we woke up.
What did it amount to in concrete terms - that is, what did Jackson actually do?
