The West tries to impose its culture and its worldview on parts of the world that are not Western.
We do not understand the mentality of the Middle East... why it does what it does, why it makes the choices that it does.
Bush is not compromising his war on terror. To a Western viewpoint... it looks like it because he is not overt in his moves.
But it takes a collapse of power, a pressure here, a pressure there, a word from Egypt or even Saudi Arabia to get things to move in the Middle East.
To move against Arafat would have the Middle East abandon the war of terror for the greater cause of pan-Arabism.
Bush has taken severe hits to make sure the Middle East doesn't flair up and rally around pan-Arabism. The obstacles are imploding... it is slow, yes... but when it the implosion is done, the West will marvel at the strategy.
Maybe he could get together with Clowntoon and form a support group.
Definitely something to chew on.
The overall theme of this piece points out very well the fact that the Islamic radicals are not much of a strategic threat to anybody.
But God help us if we get to the point where we are blase about the deaths and dismemberments of innocent men, women and children caused by these madmen, even if they are relatively few...simply because the acts don't really threaten us fundamentally or strategically.
That is one of the things that makes us different than them. Let's hope and pray that that never changes, because if it does, the forces of darkness will have prevailed.
Nice post, BC...very thought-provoking.

Yep, there you have it. Speeches of the living and silence of the deads can speak volumes. However hell does completely shut souls up. It is there for a reason. The ancient people had a clear idea of what hell is and how real and useful it is. Blinding and castrating the leader is one way to make a point of shutting him up in a world where procreation and ability to bless or curse with the eyes were blessings.
Excellent understanding of Realpolitick something the Bushwhackers will never have.
