Stripper mom: I'm following the Bible
Mother says high-paying job gives her time to teach daughter values

The mother of a 5-year-old California girl facing expulsion from the Christian school she attends acknowledges her job as a stripper is not one to be proud of, but says her work allows her time to follow the Bible by being a "hands-on" parent.

As WorldNetDaily reported yesterday, the mother, Christina Silvas, was called into a conference at Capital Christian School in Sacramento after school officials became aware that she works as a part-time strip-tease dancer at a local club.

Rick Cole, senior pastor of Capital Christian Church, which sponsors the school, and other staff members met with Silvas to discuss their contention that her occupation is in violation of an agreement with and commitment to the school philosophy that parents must sign before the children are admitted as students. Her daughter would have to be removed, she was told, if Silvas did not quit her job.

The officials offered to cover the girl's last month's tuition of $400 if Silvas would change jobs. They also offered to support Silvas both financially and spiritually, and to help her find a different job that was in keeping with the school's values. Silvas declined the offer.

As a requirement for admission, parents of prospective students must sign a "commitment" to support the philosophy of the school. That philosophy, in part, reads: "Emphasis is placed on learning about God and the truths of God's Word in relationship to man and his world; recognizing that the way to God comes through personal faith in Jesus Christ; and Christian maturity comes by application of the truths of the Bible in all areas of life." In signing the document, parents agree to maintain a "partnership" with the school "regarding the standards and criteria of a Christian learning structure that involves the entire family."

According to reporter George Franco of KOVR-TV, Silvas has retained legal counsel and is considering filing a motion for an immediate injunction to have the child remain in school while the mother continues to work as a stripper.

Last night, Cole and Silvas discussed the matter with Bill O'Reilly, host of "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel.

"We have appealed to her to change her occupation," Cole told O'Reilly, adding that "God would bless" such a decision.

While Silvas said she agrees with the school's philosophy, she sidestepped the question of whether she considered her occupation a "sinful lifestyle."

"I am just doing it for a season," Silvas reasoned, adding, "I'm not proud of what I'm doing."

Silvas argued that since her job takes her away for only three days a week – the days her daughter, Abby, is with her father – she is therefore available to be "the one to teach [Abby] the Bible at home," thus upholding her commitment to partner with the school in her daughter's education.

"The Bible calls on parents to be hands-on," Silvas told O'Reilly. She sees her situation as better than that of a single mother who puts her child in daycare for several hours a day.

When asked if it was fair that the school's actions were, in effect, punishing the daughter, Cole put the responsibility for the expulsion on the mother.

"My concern is, who is the cause of this consequence?" he asked. "The consequence of [Silvas'] choice is affecting her daughter adversely."

None of the participants in the televised segment talked about the possibility of litigation. Silvas did mention, however, that she hoped to find a new job soon and that people outside Capital Christian Church had offered to help her find work.

I don't think that anybody here on the woman's side would try to say she is as pure as snow, obviously she is not.

Unless she was involved in prostitution, and those facts are not in evidence, yes, I will say she is pure as snow.

Dancing is a physical act. Legally, offering the act is prostitution.

The first thing that the pastor said was that this was a covenant Christian school. As a covenant school parent, she signed a form in the beginning of the application process that she would follow a certain set of values and behavior which the school considers consistent with the teachings of Christ. In other words, SHE AGREED TO THE SCHOOL'S RULES BEFORE THE CHILD EVEN WAS ACCEPTED.

Notice that they have not judged her (or her child) but only her occupation. They have offered to help her find other work and make the financial transition to a lifestyle they consider appropriate for a school parent. FOR WHATEVER REASONS (AND THE LURE OF MONEY IS AMONG THEM), SHE HAS CONTINUED TO CHOOSE THIS LIFESTYLE. IT IS HER CHOICE TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE A POOR ROLE MODEL FOR HER DAUGHTER. THIS IS CONTRARY TO THE SCHOOL'S COVENANT.

Finally, does she really think that she's doing her daughter a favor when some guy comes up to her in public and tells her what a hot bod she has? This is "good mothering"?

WWJD? I think that he would act in the same compassionate, patient manner the school did. The sins of the parents may or may not be visited upon the child, but inevitably, the selfish choices and hypocritical values of this mother will be.

I will say she is pure as snow.

Then you'd better heed Frank Zappa's warnings.

Quit lying.

Hah! Listen to your fellow stoners on this thread who are supporting this action against a little girl. It was the little girl who was made to pay. They forced her out in the middle of the school year. Yeah her friend's parents knew and some had to explain how her mommy was "bad" and they had to expell her to keep bad people out. Do you have a kid. Their friends are their whole world at that point and she isn't allowed to go to school with them because her mommy is bad. That is evil to do to a little girl. There is no two ways about it. EVIL.

The mother is doing something wrong, but these christians punished her child for it in front of her friends. She has been told her mommy was not good enough, evil. This is pure venom to put on a young girl. These "Christians" (Pharisees) and the people who agree with them sicken me. I hope there is a good supply of millstones.

Now i've been on your side & I don't have a problem with what she does, but I don't think she qualifies as mother Mary.

This is a very sensitive issue with me. Because of something simular as I was growing up, I did change my religion to Wicca.

My two daughters are very Christian and I drill them constantly to teach them those lessons. But for me, the Church drove me away and I simply can not be a part of that culture.

Are you really saying that you teach your kids about Christianity even though you are Wiccan and don't want anything to do with Chrisitianity?

I may have been born at night but I wasn't born last night.

There is no physical act unless the "client" is touched. Look it up in the police law book my friend.

It seems that she's out for publicity at her daughter's expense.

The little girl already was disgraced and told her mommy was evil in front of her friends, her daughter had nothing else to loose. The little girls whole world was crushed by these pharisees. Her whole world (her school friends and her mommy's reputation) is ripped apart and she is made to pay for her mother's transgressions. They should have waited for the end of the year and told her mom to atke her elsewhere. Instead these Pharisees forced her out in front of her little friends. You may call that Christian behavior. I call it evil, pure meaness. No Christian would do that to a little girl. Not unless they know a different Christ than I do.

Ok, sorry about the pun, but I admit that she should not make this a habit.

And the same chain that stripper Mom works at (The Gold Club) was busted with mafia connections and celebrities getting sexual favors in the back rooms like Patrick Ewing and Mike Jordan.

Their is no comparison between drugs & stripping, stripping is not illegal

Stripping may not be illegal, but it is immoral, at least according to the school where she put her child and where she signed an agreement WITH that school.

AND...for the third time.....my point was, would a "good mother" do "anything" (legal or not) to be able to make enough money to keep her kid out of daycare and keep hours that would enable her to stay home with the child.

besides, it was a "what if" scenario...so there IS a comparison between drugs & stripping if you have a mom that decides that dealing drugs would bring in the kind of money she needs to stay home with her child. her attitude might be, 'hey, i may be dealing drugs, but at least I'm a stay-at-home mom and I'm not stripping for money...'. whereas stripper mom might be thinking, "yeah, I strip for money, but at least I'm not dealing drugs....that's illegal". whoopdee-do.

Most prostitution counts are made based on solicitation. If they agree, they get arrested.

What is going here is much like a merchant in a free society stipulating requirements against the law, before transacting business. It is much more like the phone company demanding that you convert to islam, before allowing you to connect to their service. The law should come down hard on this school and demand that they cease and desist, as this parent has committed no crime. If this comes to trial, it is my opinion that the parent will win, and it will be determined that the school never had the right to demand arbitrary behavior beyond what the law currently demands.

Your first sentence is oxymoronic. A merchant in a truly "free society" shouldn't be restricted by "law" in what conditions are necessary to do business with him.

This church has every right as a private group to restrict attendence to their school.

That said, I think their attitude is stupid and un-Christian. Had they truly ministered to her out of love, kept her kid in school, and been supportive rather than condemnatory, they might have saved the mother.

But then I don't have to hang around either of them, do I?

O.K. I acknowledge that it is a "What if" situation, but for the life of me I cannot compare Drug Dealing to Stripping. There is no comparison because I don't think that it is immoral, maybe distasteful but not immoral.
