Stripper mom: I'm following the Bible
Mother says high-paying job gives her time to teach daughter values

The mother of a 5-year-old California girl facing expulsion from the Christian school she attends acknowledges her job as a stripper is not one to be proud of, but says her work allows her time to follow the Bible by being a "hands-on" parent.

As WorldNetDaily reported yesterday, the mother, Christina Silvas, was called into a conference at Capital Christian School in Sacramento after school officials became aware that she works as a part-time strip-tease dancer at a local club.

Rick Cole, senior pastor of Capital Christian Church, which sponsors the school, and other staff members met with Silvas to discuss their contention that her occupation is in violation of an agreement with and commitment to the school philosophy that parents must sign before the children are admitted as students. Her daughter would have to be removed, she was told, if Silvas did not quit her job.

The officials offered to cover the girl's last month's tuition of $400 if Silvas would change jobs. They also offered to support Silvas both financially and spiritually, and to help her find a different job that was in keeping with the school's values. Silvas declined the offer.

As a requirement for admission, parents of prospective students must sign a "commitment" to support the philosophy of the school. That philosophy, in part, reads: "Emphasis is placed on learning about God and the truths of God's Word in relationship to man and his world; recognizing that the way to God comes through personal faith in Jesus Christ; and Christian maturity comes by application of the truths of the Bible in all areas of life." In signing the document, parents agree to maintain a "partnership" with the school "regarding the standards and criteria of a Christian learning structure that involves the entire family."

According to reporter George Franco of KOVR-TV, Silvas has retained legal counsel and is considering filing a motion for an immediate injunction to have the child remain in school while the mother continues to work as a stripper.

Last night, Cole and Silvas discussed the matter with Bill O'Reilly, host of "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel.

"We have appealed to her to change her occupation," Cole told O'Reilly, adding that "God would bless" such a decision.

While Silvas said she agrees with the school's philosophy, she sidestepped the question of whether she considered her occupation a "sinful lifestyle."

"I am just doing it for a season," Silvas reasoned, adding, "I'm not proud of what I'm doing."

Silvas argued that since her job takes her away for only three days a week – the days her daughter, Abby, is with her father – she is therefore available to be "the one to teach [Abby] the Bible at home," thus upholding her commitment to partner with the school in her daughter's education.

"The Bible calls on parents to be hands-on," Silvas told O'Reilly. She sees her situation as better than that of a single mother who puts her child in daycare for several hours a day.

When asked if it was fair that the school's actions were, in effect, punishing the daughter, Cole put the responsibility for the expulsion on the mother.

"My concern is, who is the cause of this consequence?" he asked. "The consequence of [Silvas'] choice is affecting her daughter adversely."

None of the participants in the televised segment talked about the possibility of litigation. Silvas did mention, however, that she hoped to find a new job soon and that people outside Capital Christian Church had offered to help her find work.

Took you long enough, but you finally got around to the crux of the matter, money, this so-called school operates in a free society as a business and should be required to provide service under the law as any other business, or don't charge.

You have GOT to be kidding.

What, praytell, would be the difference between such schools and public schools?

Yes, the school should be forced to serve any parent who cough ups the bucks and is not a known criminal, that is the law, and if nanny’s like you don't like it then I suggest you move to a country where religious law is the norm.

Wow, you are all over the place. If you are really against "nannies," you would leave the Capital Christian Centers and the like alone, and let the Christina Silvases vote with their dollars whether they want their children educated in their schools rather than suggest that the government require every private learning facility be open to anyone. Some "free society" that you envision.

BTW is there any country where religious law works, maybe we should consider disfiguring this woman so she would no longer be attractive, you know the way they do it in other apparent Godly nations.

Quit ranting like a brainless yahoo. No one is suggesting that Silvas be branded, tarred and feathered, or even demanding her daughter be removed from her care. I know it makes you feel good to suggest that there is some kind of Talibanesque thinking behind deciding that stripping is not consistent with Christian principles, but you're lying to yourself.

I know your kind of Christianity, you are the type who brings others to Christ tied to the back of your pick-up truck.

Grow up.

Dancing is a physical act. Legally, offering the act is prostitution.

That has to be the silliest thing I've ever seen you post. Or do you believe all dancing is sinful? What does a woman (or man) do that makes dancing prostitution?

Now if she caught doing this, then that is an immoral illegal act.

If I had a son, I would pay money to send him to this school! Don't want him ending up being a Gay from public education.

Thanks for the image, it made me laugh.

I will say it again:

Quit lying. Not even Silvas has said anything like that has happened, and we would not be talking about this at all if Silvas hadn't sobbed to the media.

For that matter, if Silvas had accepted Capital's offer and gotten other employment to bring her out of the strip world -- thus allowing her child to finish her education -- we wouldn't be talking about it then, either. It wouldn't be "news."

What if the mother was an abortion doctor? Legal work, doesn't do it when the child is around, just doing it to afford sending her kid to school.

She made a deal, renigined on it, was given a way out by the school, but felt it was better that her kid not graduate kindergarten rather than live up to her contractual agreement.

The School is right on this one and because of the mothers selfishness, the child suffers.

maybe the christians here can understand that the school has a right to uphold an agreement signed by the mother.

If mom was so picky about Christian values, why did she run to the media whining that the school wasn't willing to drop a few of the values for her sake?

If the school admin had caved quickly and said, 'no problem', shouldn't she have a problem with the fact that the school promised (via the agreement) that they would uphold Christian values, yet could be easily talked out of them? If I were in such an arrangement with a private Christian school, I would seriously have a problem if I found out they were so flexible on our "agreement".

Again the Contract didn't outline what an immoral act is, what's immoral for you doesn't necessarily make it immoral for the next person.

She might be a fox, but she's not that bright. She signed an agreement she either couldn't read or didn't understand. She rejected a scholarship offer for the child (wasn't tuition the original motivation?) as well as the offer of a potential network to help her improve her employment opportunities.

She said she wanted a Christian education because that would be better than what she got. Well, she's going to get an education in responsibility and logic. She likes the job because it's alot of money without alot of work. Gee, don't we all want that? And how do you get that kind of job? With an education. Unless she gets an education for herself, she's not going to find that opportunity. Furthermore, her future career opportunities in stripping will only diminish as she ages--contrary to her potential opportunities if she takes up the church's offer.
