Ya know, if you don't pull this thread it will waste much bandwidth.

I'll bet it will have the number of posts of an "Ignore this thread" thread.

Or a "This is just a test" thread. I could go on...it is such fun to waste someone elses bandwidth.

Well, from the further conversations I am gathering that I am wrong and you can't select the number of posts that display in "Posts to you" ... I have mine set at the highest... so I hadn't noticed it didn't follow the same setting as the rest of it. Sorry for the useless advice.

There are idiots on every board who, at one time or another, lie about being able to identify a poster's ISP from a post. The Robinsons or Admin can, but no one without admin priveleges can do it.

I guess we just keep you around as a token dissenter, then, and to enjoy the irony of the fact that you not being banned works to undercut the very assertion you are making here.

I would estimate that 90% of the banned accounts here have been "owned" by a much smaller number of actual people, perhaps as small as 0.1% of those individuals who have ever signed up on Free Republic. Troublemakers love to make multiple accounts, sleeper accounts, and keep coming back again and again.

Clara Lou, I need to correct something you wrote.

The Robinsons or Admin can, but no one without admin priveleges else can do it.

The moderators cannot see IP addresses, email addresses, or anything of the sort.

The particular poster has very good computer skills, and is a FAB member, and those things, along with another incident I'd rather not discuss right now, prompted the concerns.

I would feel better if the Admin Moderator were "absolutely certain" rather than "pretty sure" the poster in question was lying.

I believe you can if you are using the beta site instead of the regular site. Log in to it here. Click your name in the upper right corner, then on "my preferences", then in the upper right hand corner again click on "browsing".

That's a change that has been suggested before and is on John's to-do list.

Well... as long as this thread is being allow to hang in there....

Any chance of dumping Yahoo! as the contingency site?

That last meltdown we had made it apparent that the changes to the Yahoo! forum really suck.
I signed up over at Free Dominion where they have a thread for FReeper guest.
Perhaps JimRob can keep us informed of the status of such repairs over there.

I'm sure John also has a mile-long to-do list, but I kinda like the little smiley thingys Free Dominion enables to be inserted in their comments. Thought maybe something like that could be implemented here. I also like their "signature" feature -- where I can put "Go Pat Go!!!" every time I post. We used to have that here with the "public email address" box, but that was eliminated.

Okay, I finally have to disclose my ignorance and ask it (and this hurts, because I'm usually good at figuring out acronyms)--what is FAB?

The mods would still be needed - to keep folks like you from going there to drop stink bombs! It's real simple, just stay away from threads you don't like and you'll keep thinking you're winning....something.....

I believe the tagline field will be returning in the not too distant future. But for us long timers, Willie, I don't need the field. When I see your name, I still see the italicized Go Pat Go! :-)

If you don't like the "Day in the life of..." threads, why do you visit them? Why not post your own thread-- say a "A Day in the Life of Harry Browne" (oops-- no life there) or "Day in the Life of John McVain" or Pat Buchanan or whoever your personal hero is?

Posting this to the forum as per your request...

Why was the "Immigration Headache for GOP" thread pulled yesterday?

I can still see it in "My Comments." My last post was to hchutch at #94, and there was a post to me by WRhine at #97. I saw nothing in the first 94 posts that warranted a deletion, and the WRhine at #97 told me he saw nothing in the next three.

The thread got pulled at #98. If that lone post was so bad, why delete the entire thread for it?
