Suggestions for the moderators
Myself ^ | 05-18-2002 | Dan Keller

Just a small suggestion for the moderators: When you delete a thread, please freepmail (or email to our registered addys) why the thread was deleted. This is not a flame - just a suggestion to cut down on the "Why was my post deleted" threads (which I have posted to myself).

Thanks, Dan (The Hacksaw Man)

I agree. It would be good if the explanation was included in the remnants of the thread. I occasionally see an interesting thread and see it disappear. I wonder what is the reason.

I'd appreciate the same courtesy when you delete a comment within a thread. I have had a couple of comments "Removed by Moderator" and had no clue why. A private e-mail stating whether a particular rule was broken or whether it was just the whim of the moderator would certainly be helpful in preventing future transgressions.

This is a great idea. It also would help if we could be told why something that a large group of people consider breaking news gets removed from breaking news. I know that some things should not be posted in breaking news but we have had some hot news items get removed lately and then get reposted there as a new bn item because many believe it is.

I realize that it is hard sometimes to determine what is breaking as developments are unfolding but one of the great things I admire about this site is that something will happen and our Freepers are on it immediately with all kinds of updates and insight... not matter where in the world the event is breaking.

This thread is being pulled because Jim has said that he does not want "why was my thread pulled" threads on his forum. You can always use freepmail to ask questions.

And I have just reviewed the actions of the past 24 hours. It does not appear that any threads of yours have been pulled.

If a post of yours is pulled and you can't figure out why, here are the steps to take:

1) Check to see if your post is a duplicate of one that was posted within the last few hours.

2) Check to see if your post is a full posting of something the Washington Post/LA Times owns.

3) If it was neither and you still cannot figure out why, write to the Admin Moderator account. Be patient- it may take several hours for us to get back to you.

4) If you do not get an answer or the answer is unsatisfactory, then contact Jim Robinson.

More times than not when a thread is pulled for reasons other than being a duplicate, a mail is sent. In the future, mails will automatically be sent when a thread is pulled.

This thread will self destruct in 5 minutes.

Because there is no consistency in the way the mods apply the rules, you can only chalk it up to bias/favortism on their part....

This has been suggested before, yet nothing has changed.

Jim has chosen a group of people to make the decision on if something belongs in one of the "prime" sidebars (breaking, extended, front page, editorial).

If you disagree with one of their actions, you can contact either sidebar moderator or admin moderator. If you do not get an answer or you find the answer unacceptable, then feel free to contact Jim Robinson.

A good rule of thumb for each of the sidebars is this:

1) If one posts something to more than one of these sidebars, and it not incredibly obvious that it belongs in a sidebar, then odds are it will be removed from ALL sidebars.

2) Breaking news is for news that is so breaking that one would almost expect to see FNC or CNN break in to whatever show they have on to report it, or that radio stations would break in to whatever they were airing to report on it. Jim also allows breaking news to be used for various FR chapter announcements to aide in our activism efforts.

Front Page is for news that one could reasonably expect to find on the front page of the next day's paper (or could if the paper was run by a reasonably conservative editorial board).

Extended is for news that isn't quite breaking, wouldn't be on the front page, but is more important than most. It is also used for stories that extend or support (give more information, give background, etc). front page or breaking stories.

Editorial is for published opinion pieces that would be of interest to conservatives.

Hope this helps.

Something does not become true merely because it is asserted.

Jim watches everything we do (and a good portion of the time he is doing it with us).

If there was favoritism, he would not stand for it. If there was inconsistency, he would not stand for it.

Did this thread really self-destruct?

OK, I'm ignoring it anyway.

That's the reference. Actually, I think I will leave it up for a while. It might do some good to have the suggestions I gave above get a good viewing, and besides, the forum hasn't had a good old-fashioned rip-the-moderators thread in a long time (FAB excepted, of course).
