I thought Catholic schools taught kids how to spell.

It sounds like the public schools had her for way too long. She's typical of their culture. .."She was recently baptized as a Catholic."

The tragedy has also been devastating to her classmates at St. Peter, where she transferred last fall and was co-captain of the cheerleading squad. Counselors will be on hand at the school today - where the flag flew at half-staff.

Last fall, after her parents' divorce, Christina left her hometown of New Milford and moved into her aunt's two-story house. She was recently baptized as a Catholic.

It takes a while to purge what public education has sown

With the nuns gone and the rise of the "spell check generation," spelling skills have declined among us Catholic School graduates and current students.
