Homeschooling: Have You Considered It For Your Children?

Many Muslims living in the West choose to homeschool their children as a means of preserving religious and cultural values and of minimizing any negative influences that the prevailing culture around them may have upon their childrens' lives. Provided that certain guidelines are followed, homeschooling is perfectly legal in the US and would not prevent a child from entering the university.

Just stirring things up a bit.
Yes, I agree that government schools are wretched.
Comments from any homeschoolers out there?

Homeschooling is the only way to actively PREVENT SOLCIALISTIC COMMUNISM FROM BEING brainwashed into our children.. Of course any tool that can be used for good can also be used for bad.. bottom line is parents must take control of their kids education, and not pawn it off to the lowest bidder (The Government)...

I respectfully disagree... to have it both ways, parents would need to spend as much time UN-brainwahsing their kids than they would spend in homeschooling curriculum anyway...

You hit the nail on the head.. Education without a moral foundation is dangerous..

What ever side you choose there has to be interatcion with other kids. I teach Sunday School to 4-5 year olds at my church. The ones that "stay at home with Mom" are the most unruly, non-listening kids you have ever seen. They are selfish, an do not no how to act with other kids. For my daughter, she goes to a church day care during the day, but my wife works at the day care in a different room. They can still see each other whenever, but my daughter still has interaction with peers her age and you can tell it helps when she is in public or stays with other family members.

We don't unbrainwash. We prevent the brainwashing from occurring in the first place.

The ones that "stay at home with Mom" are the most unruly, non-listening kids you have ever seen. That is a problem with the "teachers"--their parents. Both my kids stay at home and everywhere we go, we get compliments on how well behaved and polite our kids are. Of course, we interact with other homeschoolers as well--so they do get their social times.

Yrs, but some catholic schools still teach by co-operative methods, which is another way to instill socialism in students. It is reason number one I will homeschool my two boys.

Wow- your experience is against the rule. My experience and those of my other stay at home Mom friends , strangers I meet and family members ,comment on how bratty day care kids have become over the years. I worked in a day care before my child was born and those kids were the most lonesome, lost kids I have ever seen.

I didn't know Muslim women could have their own website. Does it have to be covered?

My experience has been the opposite. It's the kids raised in "kiddy kennels" (i.e. day care) that are the most self-centered and very, very aggresive.

I believe that your comments concerning interaction with other children are spot on. We homeschool for a lot of reasons, and it's been very successful for us. Still, we want our boy to have friends his own age, which can be a challenge for homeschoolers.
It's not an insurmountable challenge, though. We are heavily involved in Cub Scouts, and he is into sports. He's taking Tae Kwan Do, golf and tennis at the moment. Those are good opportunities to reinforce discipline, even though some of the kids have behavior problems. We tell our son to pay attention to the coach, and not to the "problem children" who are in his classes. We make a point of using the unruly children as examples of bad behavior bringing bad consequences...nearly every tennis class includes one particularly mouthy kid being put on the bench while the others continue to play.
We're fortunate in that there are children his age in our neighborhood, some in private Christian/Catholic schools, and some in public schools. We make a point of knowing their parents, and they are good families. Most parents are receptive to having their children become playmates with kids the right parents.
Lord, this post has dragged on. But my point is that I believe social interaction with other children is important, and, with a little effort, homeschool parents can find opportunities.

That is true. We are also involved with Cub Scouts, and we plan to start him in a martial arts class (he and Dad--as soon as my broken toe heals). He has several homeschooling playgroups, and is involved at church.
Just like with public schooling, the parents MUST be involved with their childrens' education and lives.

My wife and I plan to Home school our children, as soon as we have some that is. Our kids will not be brainwashed by a socialist liberal mentality.
