I believe there is a difference between a "pacifist" and a "passivist". A pacifist would be an advocate of peace. He would necessarily abhore volence, and the commission of violence against another. A pacifist would, therefore, find a moral imperitive to intervene to prevent the commission of violence against another.

A passivist, on the other hend, could never be persuaded to, even in the pursuit of self preservation, any measure of violence.

Passivists are all either crazy, enslaved or dead.

"Sell your coat and buy a sword," was His advise. And for those who say that it was for protection against animals, in that case the recommendation would have been to buy a spear. Swords were for protection from other people.
