There are winners and losers in great powers conflicts. In this one, the clear choice in terms of US interests is India. It's a no brainer.

If India could win and it would solve the problem of terrorism, I'd be all for it.

I think they can defeat the Pak army, although it wouldn't be easy, but I don't see how they could govern the country. All that would be left is anarchy, and that's where terrorism thrives.

It seems counterproductive to me, not to mention the fact that a couple of Indian cities might get nuked in the process.

Pakistan, as the number one client state of the PRC, and the lynch pin of the Trans-Asian Axis, as described in numerous papers by Bodansky, rhetoric post-9/11 notwithstanding, are not doing things in the overall best ineterst of the US and the West. Even today as we write, in spite of what is actually a minor, tokin level of support for our troops and ops, the Pakistanis and the PRC proceed on the construction of a large, joint deployment naval port at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz. The ISI continue to actively undermine the War on Terror. Pakistani advisors have been working with the PLA in setting up Naval bases and SIGINT facilities in Myanmar. None of this has changed since 9/11. Rhetoric vs. actions. Now do you see where I am coming from?

More thought provoking readings here...

As a rough calculation Pakistan has about 20% of what they need by manpower to guard or hold a tight border. So deep scout missions ought to be successful most of the time if villages are avoided.

Pre-emptive strike needed, even by US forces if no others; these missiles will not do anything good for the West or for our side, why let them stand there on their pads?

TAKE OUT THESE MISSILES NOW!

It would be listening more than looking. There would be characteristic sounds foreign to open countryside. For example you might hear someone speaking in Pakistani in the forest in the night saying something like, "No we are not in #@%$&^% position. I can't get this $^%& piece of *^&% thing out of reverse." Then you might move cautiously toward the sound expecting to report something other than a farmer at 3 AM in the woods.

Kashmir has a majority muslim population, but a Hindu royal family. India broke its own principle and sided with the royals.

It is my understanding that Kashmir is majority Muslim now because the Pakistani based Muslim terrorists have over the years successfully run off many of the original Hindu Kashmiris, and they continue to terrorize the ones that are left. The royal family is a holdover--it had tried to maintain independence and order, but can't do it.

If I'm wrong on my recollection of the facts, I'm sure someone will correct me quickly!

Has anyone read anything about the deployment of Chinese troops in the area of Pakistan or India's borders with China? I haven't heard a word but it seems to me if China wanted to assist Pakistan without direct involvement, it could deploy huge numbers of troops along India's border to cause it to redeploy its troops away from Pakistan.

US should take these missiles out NOW. Their ultimate destination is not New Delhi but New York. Ten years from now - Pakistan will have the capability to nuke Washington. In a scenario of a nuclear war with Pakistan - there are 1000 million Indians - so a loss of 15-20 million is not going to destroy the civilization. There are sufficient number of Indian scientists , managers and engineers safely sitting in the US/Europe ( assuming the pakis have not given these bombs to Iran or OBL ) who can be called upon to rebuild India after the main cities are destroyed ( and of course Pakistan by then would have ceased to exist and be a threat )
