European-Americans
I am White, but am not a European-American. I am just an American, thank you. I will happily unite with all Americans against hyphenated Americans of whatever stripe. You are either American, or you're not. *No* one should get any preferential treatment: not Whites, Blacks, Reds, or Yellows -- no one.
Martin Luther King's dream was a good one: a dream in which skin color doesn't matter as far as character and ability. Any hyphenation of Americanism is wrong and should be fought wherever it rears its head. Take pride in your heritage, but all citizens should get it fixed in their heads that they are Americans first and foremost, and whatever else a very distant second.
Sadly, the realist in me tells me that what Pat is warning about may very well come true. We are being backed into a corner by our government and by other races. Eventually, there could be terrible reprecussions as a result.
Remember, everyone, two wrongs don't make a right. But also, we have the right to be ourselves and to be proud of that fact, whatever the color of our skin.
