Democrats fail to bring down a president after 2 smear campaigns: BUSH RATES 76%

About two-thirds of Americans think a terrorist attack is likely in the United States in the next few weeks, an increase from March when half felt that way, according to a CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll released Thursday.

About the same number said they had at least some confidence in the government's ability to protect citizens, slightly down from March. President Bush (news - web sites)'s job approval rating was at 76 percent.

The poll of 1,002 adults was taken May 20-22, and has an error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Among the poll's other findings:

_Just over half, 54 percent, said the Bush administration did the best job it could with available information Sept. 11, while 19 percent said the administration made "an understandable mistake," and another 23 percent said it made "a serious error."

_Six in 10 said there was not enough information available before Sept. 11 to have prevented the attacks.

_About half said both sides in Congress are either interested in protecting the president or in making him look bad, while four in 10 said the two sides mostly want to "find out what happened."

After 2 massive smear campaigns, the Enron scandal and the 9-11 "Bush-Knew" smear, the Democrats still have not been able to bring down one of the most popular presidents in American history.

Trust me, I like your title. It is what it should have been, I was just curious how the AP was spinning this to the RATs which are content to just read the headlines...

Looks like the Rats are down to the bottom of the barrel. I guess the next one will be Bush wants to take away grandma's social security. Nothing left but Mediscare and Dingell-Norwood.

Bush's poll ratings don't mean much more than Americans once they elect a President will more than likely give him two terms. That to some extent explain Clinton's polls although he never did get a majority of the popularity vote.

What I fear is that Bush will leave office after two terms just like Clinton without his party holding either house of congress. I cannot get excited over Bush after seeing his education bill, his signing of the farmer welfare bill, and most of all his unwillingness to secure our borders with tougher immigration policies and enforcement.

One of my favorite editorial comics, published shortly after GW announced his decision to send US troops to defend the US and to attack terrorists hiding out in Afghanistan:

In another time and galaxy far away President Bush may not have been as popular with his people as he is, we'll never know. However, when it came to survival brought to the fro by 9-11, he proved he was up to the challenge. Since the Korean War the USA has been a reluctant warrior when it comes to battle in spite of our might. GW has not been afraid to use, unappoligetically, the strength of our forces to protect this land and people. The more his enemies attack him the stronger his support will become because the people want to know that he will be in charge in these perilous times and not one of the "sniveling cowards" of the past (and present).

no one is 100% perfect. Reagan is one of my heroes yet he fully supported the Brady Bil, gave illegals full amnesty in 1986, and signed one of the most liberal abortion laws in California as governor.
