This has been a week full of truly outrageous media bias. We went from former President Carter's trip to Cuba to Democratic Party irritability over the fund-raising photo of President Bush to the hysterical pack howl of "cover-up". In an environment like this, the only healthy choice has got to be the silliest.
And what could be sillier than Al Gore and fellow Clintonista, Joe Lockhart, criticizing Republican fundraising methods? Only ABC news taking seriously the criticisms of these two ethical "giants"! Admit it - you feel more lighthearted already!
On Wednesday, 05/15/2002, on Good Morning America, during the 7 am news, Don Dahler led into the story:
"President Bush raised more money for Republicans last night than any party has ever raised in a single evening, more than $30 million. Even as he raised the money, he was under fire from Democrats for one way GOP money is being raised."
Terry Moran: "The images of September 11th have become an indelible part of American history. Now, one of them is part of American politics. This GOP fundraising solicitation tells potential donors that for $150, they will receive a limited edition series of photographs depicting the defining moments of the first year of the Bush presidency. Among them, this picture of Mr. Bush aboard Air Force One on September 11th, just hours after the attacks, calling Vice President Cheney. Democrats lambasted the pitch as a desecration of the tragedy of that day."
Clinton White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart: "They've used something that caused immense pain for this entire nation and they're using it to raise money. You'd expect that from con men; you don't expect that from the President of the United States."
Moran: "The White House counterattacked."
Ari Fleischer: "I think the Democrats are having a very difficult time coming to grips with the fact that this is a very popular President."
Moran: "The President himself seemed oblivious to the controversy, attending a gala fundraiser last night in Washington that raked in a record $30 million. The guests here had no problem with the GOP tactic."
Anonymous man: "I don't see it as selling access or anything like that. It's just a nice memento that you're able to take home and put on the wall and frame."
Moran: "But Democrats sense an opportunity. Former Vice President Al Gore weighed in saying, 'I cannot imagine that the families of those who lost their lives on September 11th condone this.' In the end, Don, this is a question of political taste, the answer to which probably depends on one's party affiliation."
The same people who claim to be so outraged over this thought it was perfectly okay to hold fundraising coffees in the White House, reward donors with overnighters in the Lincoln bedroom, and collect illegal foreign contributions. That ABC news would run this whining as serious criticism is laughable!

The outrage just keeps on keepin on.
This incident didn't get to me, because my expectations of Terry Moran are so low. On the night of December 12, 2000, after the Supreme Court handed down its 7-2 (you know, the one the socialist media forgot to report on) and 5-4 decisions on stopping further recounts in Florida, Moran was reporting from D.C. (by the USSC, I believe). You could hear cheering in the background, but Moran wouldn't permit his cameraman to pan out to show the cheering section. The ABC anchor (maybe Ted Koppel, since it was late at night by the time the decision came down) asked Moran who was cheering. "That's the Bush people," he sighed, while making a face.
"The Bush people" referred to a contingent of never-say-die FReepers. (I think Kristinn was one of the most stalwart of them.)
Exactly my thought. Good example of their hypocrisy and total lack of principle,
huh? Not to mention that there isn't any moral or legal violation here.....
Sheesh !
The rats make up a large part of Americas Axis of Evil Whining Weasels. They and the third party profession hate GWers are best known for their whining!
