Man sentenced to jail, ordered to pay $1 million for passport scam

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Hong Kong national who pleaded guilty to tax evasion as part of a scheme to sell passports from the Marshall Islands to Asians was sentenced to nearly three years in prison, authorities said Friday.

Tommy Ho Ching Cheng, who resides in Diamond Bar as a permanent resident, pleaded guilty to operating a scheme in which he sold the passports for $30,000 apiece to people from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, telling them they could use them to enter the United States without visas.

During WWII the Germans launched and incompetent effort at infiltration/sabbotage; it was basically a miracle that they caused no damage. I figure that "securing our borders" will always belong in quotes. Always has, probably always will . . .
