Thanks. A very good reminder of the true purpose of Memorial Day. The press, and through their ignorance, the people, have come to believe that Memorial Day is about veterans, those who served. Of late, the body public has added police and firemen, the dead of 9/11, their families; and the multitude of victims of one tragedy or another. It is not this. It is to remember those who fell in our nations battles, and we should remind people of this distinction.

Thanks. I thought it was a fine speech.

I made this very point to my oldest son today. Veterans are remembered on Veterans Day. This is the day to remember those who made that greatest sacrifice in defense of their country.
With regard to 9/11, I would submit that the names Todd Beamer and Jeremy Glick, Thomas Burnett Jr. and Mark Bingham, be among those honored on this day. These militiamen ceased to be civilians on that day. They deserve to be honored as veterans who willingly gave their lives in defense of this country.
