Do you know, or can you find out, anything about the federal government (under Clinton/Rubin) Consumer Price Index (CPI) "experimental, discretionary" guide for assessors of private property taxes in counties with at least a 20% poverty rate? It has to do with figures from HUD, the Dept. of Labor, and the Census Bureau.
If you recall, Clinton once mentioned taxing property owners an additional amount --- something to do with IF they were renters.
That's what this CPI is doing, unknown to most of us. Even our State Sen. Jack Brown couldn't enlighten me further as to why Gila County property owners are paying an extra 2.8% this year. And the tax assessor will not clearly detail the facts, admitting that it's the feds setting the agenda!
Only a few of us are aware that our property taxes will triple over the next 10 years. This will tax our kids out of keeping the "old homestead" as their inheritance.
