The Great Santini, like Carlos Hathcock may not meet the traditional requirements for special remembrances on Memorial Day, but I don't care.

Cleared Hot oh Great One!

Thanks, Slam.

Last time I saw Conroy was 1994 at MCAA. He shuffled along laboriously and needed the occasional helping hand, but damn, did he fill the hall with his presence.

"Cleared Hot oh Great One!"

Great post Slam. To paraphrase Dickens; You know how to keep Memorial Day.

Cheers, Buck.

Great stuff.

A friend of mine had a 78 record with some Marine songs on it. I made a tape years ago, but now it long gone, as are many of the songs. Here's the lyrics to one:

"Way up in Korea, midst rocks, ice and snow,
the poor Chinese commie is feeling so low.
As our Corsairs roar by over head,
he knows that his buddies will all soon be dead.

Chorus:

Dinky die, dinky die,
he knows that his buddies will all soon be dead.

Old Lin Pao went up to old cold Ko-Tar-i,
His prize Chinese army in action to see.
His soldiers he said, no battle could lose,
but all that he found was their hats and their shoes.

Chorus

Well, uncle Joe Stalin, your stooges have found,
it just doesn't pay to invade foreign ground!
When you disturb the serene Asian calm
You bring on the rockets, the bombs, and napalm!

Chorus

Now here's to Pyongyang and to old Hageru
and Kinshu and Ho Shu and someplace else too,
To all Marine pilots and carriers at sea,
And the Death Rattler squadron, old three-twenty-three!

Walt

I think he loved his family with his body and soul, yet no one ever lived who was less
articulate in expressing that love.

Risking his life in encounters innumerable and dangerous doesn't speak loud enough?
Just my opinion, but that kind of action speaks louder that a lot of words...

Oprah should get Pat Conroy to have a sit-down with Doctor Phil for an hour show.
Doctor Phil would put straighten out Pat a bit...
