Musharraf speech 'very provocative': India
Press Trust of India/PTI ^ | 26th May 2002

Posted on 05/27/2002 10:54:44 AM PDT by maquiladora

New Delhi, May 27 (PTI): The BJP tonight described Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's address to the nation as ``very provocative'' challenging India to whatever action it wants to take.

``He (Musharraf) justified ISI-sponsored terrorism and again declared that Pakistan would continue to support the terrorist activities in the valley in the name of freedom struggle,'' party spokesman V K Malhotra said here.

He said it is time the Government took strong action to end cross-border terrorism once and for all rather than expect any move from Pakistan in this direction.

Malhotra took strong exception to the ``civilisational war'' the Pakistan President spoke of and said this was an attempt to divide the communities in India.

He said Musharraf should know there are 120 million Muslims in this country and many of them are holding top positions in various walks of life with top scientist being Prof A P J Abdul Kalam who was bestowed the country's highest civilian honour of Bharat Ratna.

I bet the phone lines to India are burning right now.

India's response seems refreshingly pointed. Time for the State Dept to send a peace mission there.

Who knows.

If they have the guts to carry through on their promise, then they will.

NO kidding. What's the point of a dictatorship anyway if you have to pander to your street. Unless, of course, you agree with the street and are only using them as a foil to leverage your position with a gullible international community.

It is a "civilizational war". Islamicists are warring against all other civilizations in order to destroy them. That is the short version the situation.

When oh when are people going to realize that Pakistan is a consuming nation and not an opportunity creating nation. It is a voracious pit of hell. It is more capricious than gayness, it is a swarming horror. Somebody finish off this agonising beast. The US should make sure India is not going to be smashed by the Pakies and the chinese. No, instead we keep trying pretending there are still opportunities for peace a dn whatever bull. I just cannot believe it. Even a liberal could be capable of understanding that nuclear war against Pakistan is a necessity. Why are people fantasizing like that. I feel like b!tch slapping the whole of Washington DC.

An underreported story.

What is India doing right that the U.S. and Israel are not? How come India has so many Muslim citizens who are 100% patriots and willing to go to war against foreign Muslims when their country calls them, but Israel and the U.S. have almost none?

One hypothesis -- by liberating themselves from Pakistan, they avoided the subsequent Saudi infection that happened in Pakistan.

I also note, and perhaps someone with some knowledge can explain it to me, that Bangladesh never seems to figure in Islamic jihad behavior. In fact they used to be Eastern Pakistan .

Perhaps they are an even poorer stinking hellhole (if that's possible) than Pakistan, and can't even feed themselves without massive foriegn aid, let alone create mishchief.

This response is for both of you, re: Bangladesh.

Bangladesh never seems to figure in Islamic jihad behavior.

Not entirely true. They just haven't been the beneficiaries of American military and intelligence training like the Pakistanis have, thus they don't have the same capabilities to project their jihadist impulses that the Pakistanis do.

As a matter of fact, the US State Department very recently (I'll look for a link that speaks to this point) named a bunch of new organizations on their terrorist list, and one of them is in Bangladesh.

And one more thing. The Bangladeshi Islamists are much more concerned with their primary enemy, the followers of the Late Mujibur Rehman - he had a vision of a secular Bangladesh and the vast majority of Islamist violence in B'desh is directed at them.

by liberating themselves from Pakistan, they avoided the subsequent Saudi infection that happened in Pakistan.

Actually, Bangladesh has a massive madrassa system, which is almost wholly funded by the Arabs. Their madrassas are even making forays into Indian border regions in West Bengal and Assam. Entire districts of West Bengal have been turned, in a few decades since the birth of Bangladesh, into madrassa-infested "little Dhakas". Once India resolves the Kashmir problem, watch for those to explode - in our lifetimes.

Oh, great - so now there's a second or third front virtually opening up in inja's backyard. Live and learn, i did not know the madrassas had made such inroads in Bangla as well. Thanks for the info.

Check this out - Islamic Militants Added to U.S. Terrorism Watchlist

One of the groups is in Bangladesh. According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal -

The Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI), was established with the aid of Islamic militant, Osama Bin Laden in 1992 and led by Shawkat Osman alias Sheikh Farid. Imtiaz Quddus is the General Secretary of the outfit. It has an estimated strength of about 15000.

Reports suggest that the Harkat aims to establish Islamic Hukumat (Islamic rule) in Bangladesh by waging war and killing progressive intellectuals. There have been a series of incidents, including the attempt on the life of the renowned Bangladeshi poet, Shamsur Rahman, on January 18, 1999. After the police arrested 10 activists of the Harkat and sealed its office in Dhaka's suburb of Khilgaon, interrogations revealed that they planned to kill 28 prominent intellectuals including National Professor Kabir Choudhury, writer Taslima Nasreen and the Director General of the Islamic Foundation, Maulana Abdul Awal.

The Harkat is reported to maintain six camps in the hilly areas of Chittagong, where the cadres are trained in the use of weapons. Several hundred recruits have also been trained in various training camps of Afghanistan. The cadres are recruited mainly from students of various madarsas and call themselves the "Bangladeshi Taliban".

Harkat activists regularly cross over into several Indian States and maintain contact with "sources" there. They also maintain links with terrorist groups of the Northeast including the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). Reports indicate that Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has a hand in the activities of the Harkat. The Harkat has intensified its subversive activities after the Awami League formed the government in June 1996.

You write "Even a liberal could be capable of understanding that nuclear war against Pakistan is a necessity. "

That's so damn cruel and idiotic. You don't have much of an imagination, when it comes to the suffering of other people do you? To be able to contemplate such a disaster and then call for it, is stupidity beyond belief. So I conclude you are morally retarded and autistic.

Which, I hope lets you off the hook from God's judgement.
