I live on Texas Gulf Coast and have NO problem with drilling rigs = they have never bothered me. Most of the oil on the sandy beaches here is from natural seepage. I would rather see drilling rigs, than do without cars, air conditioning, indoor plumbing, jobs, medicines, food. So many products come from petro chems. Plastics, foam rubbers, medicines, etc. Imagine a world without computers and cell phones, which are made of a lot of plastic! And for the PETA crowd, if you don't want your shoes made of leather, the alternative is plastics!
