Hispanic support of GOP surges, Democrats left scrambling
TALLAHASSEE - A new poll showing Governor Jeb Bushs overwhelming popularity in the Hispanic community once again has Democrats frantically trying to bail out their sinking ship.
As reported in the Orlando Sentinel (In poll, Central Floridas Hispanics favor Gov. Bush - May 27, 2002), 60 percent of the non-Cuban Hispanics surveyed approve of the job Gov. Bush is doing and 69 percent think he is committed to improving education - the No. 1 concern among Hispanics just as with all Floridians. Gov. Bush beat Janet Reno 51 percent to 23 percent in a head-to-head match-up. Tampa Attorney Bill McBride did have one result similar to Gov. Bush - 71 percent of Hispanics have a favorable opinion of Gov. Bush, and 71 percent have never heard of Bill McBride.
For years, Democrats took the Hispanic vote for granted and Hispanics have grown tired of it, said RPOF Chairman Al Cardenas. As the Hispanic community increasingly shows its appreciation for the respect Governor Bush shows them through his everyday actions and policies, the Democrats are beginning to see what they thought was solid ground turn quickly to quicksand beneath their feet.
Cardenas pointed out two specific examples of the Democrats disrespect for Florida Hispanics - their reaction to recent voting rights lawsuits being filed and to President George W. Bushs May 20 trip to Miami in celebration of Cuban Independence.
When the U.S. Justice Department announced it was filing suit against three Florida counties for voting rights violations, Democrats were elated. State Rep. Chris Smith (D-Ft. Lauderdale) called it a bombshell, and U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Jacksonville) said They should have filed it long ago.
However, when they realized the suits dealt with issues of voting access for Hispanics and Haitians, Democrat Party Chairman Bob Poe quickly decried the suits as a political ploy saying the investigation smacks of a whitewash.
I think thousands of Hispanic and Haitian voters in Florida would disagree, said Cardenas. I think they would tell the Democrats that they have as much right to vote as any other Florida citizen and they hold their civil rights just as precious as every other American does.
And I know for a fact that Cuban-Americans were offended when Mr. Poe called us the Cuban ATM machine during President Bushs visit to Miami in celebration of the centennial anniversary of Cuban independence from Spain.

Thanks
Thanks!
They take every vote for granted. They accept large donations from groups and organizations claiming to represent practically everyone, but leave the everyman out in the cold every time.

LOL
Interesting reply. I've seen very little the past few days that wasn't "good news," relative to the GOP.

Seems the democrats have a hard time making up their mind just what this suit is about.... They should be elated that any voting rights irregularities are being examined..... or at least that would be the ethical thing to do.
Both parties generally take most votes for granted.
The exceptions are usually the swing voters.
