THE MIDDLE EAST MEDIA RESEARCH INSTITUTE
Special Dispatch Series - No. 379
May 14, 2002 No.379
Iranian Daily: All Muslims Must Come Together to Overcome the U.S.

In its "Viewpoint" column last week, the conservative daily Kayhan International criticized the apathy of the Muslim nations and called upon them to unite against the U.S.
The following are excerpts from the column: [1]

"Where is human [consciousness]? What has happened to the Islamic spirit of Jihad? Whither Arab honor and dignity?"

"A 'notorious terrorist' - Ariel Sharon is currently in Washington… to seek official support and blessings for state terrorism… Despite this… no Muslim head of state has yet dared to call the American administration the number one terrorist and the chief supporter of terrorism…"

"…Uncle Sam blatantly calls Muslims 'terrorists and supporters of terrorism,' but no Muslim country has yet dared to summon up courage to say: 'Shut up you breeder of terrorism.'"

"If not for anybody, at least for heaven's sake, let all Muslims come together under one umbrella and overcome this unwarranted fear of the U.S."

"Our apathy to Palestine, Afghanistan and other sore spots of the Islamic world has encouraged the American administration to inflate itself to gigantic proportions and appear more terrible than they actually are. Our lack of faith in the fundamentals of Islam is dragging us to our doom."

"It is high time every Muslim realizes that there is no political solution to the Palestinian crisis... If there was, and if the so-called mediating parties including the Europeans were sincere, then the Zionists would have long gone back to the lands they belong."

"Fifty-four years is a long period, although still short when compared to the 88-year occupation of Bait Al-Maqdis by the Crusaders who were eventually driven out to Europe by a united and spirited Muslim attack that involved Arabs, Turks, Kurds and Persians."

"The Muslim Ummah can achieve this victory once again if only they close ranks and stop worrying that their unity would irk the U.S.… [W]e should not displease God, the Almighty Creator…"

"…Palestinians require arms and armies and it is the duty of the Muslim Ummah to make these means available to them..."

Interesting, how they each want the others to do something but they don't initiate anything. Shows how powerless they really are.

Whither Arab honor and dignity?

Yeah, they're "withered," all right; from a starting point of "low" to imperceptible at the moment. The most useful thing those d@mned raghead SOB's can possibly do is stop bullets.

Islam is synonymous with cowardice!!

The brave Iranians encouraged their children to clear mine fields during the Iraq-Iran war in the 1980s.

There are no national heros. Their overpowering insecurity must be used as a weapon against them.

Sounds like they're getting pretty desperate. They need money for arms and that seem to be the basis for this rant.

Perhaps the reason the Arab world is not uniting against the US is because they see the happy faces of the Muslims in Afghanistan who are starting to have a decent life after 23 years of war and ruin. It's pretty hard to convince the people that the war was a bad thing when the people of the country involved are dancing in the streets and getting food, and are starting to plant, and returning to their farms and homes.

These Jihadis must think their people are stupid.

The Sunnis think the Shia's are in apostasy (does this word even apply?). The Shia's are persecuted in Sunni dominated countries, even they are the majority in Iraq.

Like I've said earlier, Mohammedans are their own worst enemies. I doubt they will ever be "unified".

What we have with this is yet another case of the rest of the Islamic world playing the Palestinians for chumps.

Don't be so stingy! We have more than enough warheads to do the job many times over.

On that day, the "anti-infidels'" only problem will be knowing when their "coming together" ends and their "going together" begins....

When as they wallow in oil money and their people starve have they ever "worried" about us?

LOL more pathetic toughguy talk from the Jr High playground. The continued existance of tiny Israel is proof the Arabs just can't get their sorry acts together.

Yeah, I caught the "let's you and him fight" drift of that one too. But if Shi'ite imams think they can give Sunnis marching orders they have another think coming. "We're all Muslims, let's go fight the infidels" hasn't worked very well since about 800 AD - it's kind of like the Pope demanding that Protestants join him for a Crusade in order to solidify the control of Rome over all Christendom.

What the Iranian mullahs fear the most is what they saw in Afghanistan: their people preferring the secular to fundamentalist Islamic law. And that is very much what the current direction in Iran is. The theocrats feel that America, specifically American freedom, is moving the cultural ground underneath their feet, and that is why they are getting more and more strident. Should Iran go secular the shock will be felt through the entire Moslem world, and that's what they're so desperate to prevent.

It's becoming more and more clear that perhaps Iraq has been put on hold, and Iran is target #1.
