This Week with the Aviation Week editor looks at the pilot in a slightly different light. A gun isn't necessary to discommode a highjacker, (pun intended). A "gentle" 1G dive and then climb will launch the "bad guy" into a "Vomit Comet" tizzy. Since abrupt maneuvers in yaw and roll could cause "pieces" to fall of the aircraft, we just have to hope that the bad guy isn't an astronaut!

Personally, I'd rather that the airliners modify the throttles. A disconnect microswitch would allow the the autopilot to take control of the engine settings. The handle and tubes that make up the throttles would disconnect. The tubes would be GUN BARRELS and the pilot would turn and blow the hijackers face off!

Roll a bunch of these cowboys off flights on a covered gurney and hold a press conference where the results of the attempt could be shown off. Pretty soon there will be nobody entering cockpits or attempting hijacking.

One G is level flight, what you experience sitting in your chair typing on your key board. Did you mean zero G?
