A dog rescued from an animal shelter has survived jumping out of its new owner's car at 70mph.
An animal welfare group in Atlanta, Georgia saved Lulu from an Alabama shelter which puts down 95% of its animals.
Nan LaSalle from Small Dog Rescue was driving the Chihuahua mix home when she jumped out of the window.
Ms LaSalle is the dogs "foster mother" until the group can find the dog a permanent home.
Officials say the dog suffered cuts and bruises but no internal injuries and is recovering well.
Ms LaSalle told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "I saw her bounce up in the air and then roll and roll and cars were swerving all over to avoid her. When she quit rolling, she just got to her feet and started running straight up the centre lane of Interstate 285."
She says at least six people stopped their cars to see if they could help Lulu.
"It was weird, like something out of a movie," Ms LaSalle said. "You hear of people all the time who won't help, but so many people tried to help Lulu. No-one even blew their horn or said anything ugly."
She added: "If anyone deserves a great home, it's this little dog, who obviously has had a rough life, then got off death row and survived a 70mph leap onto 285. She just needs a nice, safe place with rolled-up windows."
1. Was there any fore-knowledge that the dog was going to jump?
2. What precautions, if any, did the new owner/foster parents take which may have prevented the dog jumping?
3. What did the owner/foster parents do to cause the dog to jump? Was there mis-treatment involved?
4. Was the Canine Protective Services Sub-Committee for Special Congressional Oversight (CPRSCO)notified that the dog was being put in a foster home, and were there monthly scheduled visits?
5. Were the monthly visits, if scheduled, actually conducted, or was the paperwork fraudulent?
6. Shouldn't this dog being be removed from its current new owner/foster parents following this atrocious event, until the investigation absolves them of wrong-doing?
You get the drift. We need a special canine tax so that we can pay for proper Congressional oversight to prevent such actions in the future.
But the truth is that Lulu was leaping from her new owner's car toward a passing pickup truck's bed, in which sat an insolent 100 pound Doberman pinscher which Lulu believed was sorely in need of a lesson in humility.
She miscalculated her trajectory however...
And that Doberman lived to see another sunrise.
Sounds more like she needs a soft padded room. I've never seen a dog voluntarily bail out of a vehicle at high speeds!
chihuahua bump!
