The networks are giving a load of free publicity to Hollywood's new nuclear terrorism thriller, "The Sum of All Fears," but most of the talking heads are ignoring the P.C. whitewash. In Tom Clancy's novel, the evildoers are Arabs, but the movie turns them into Tinseltown's favorite (in fact, only) villain: those awful white males.
Muslim terrorists? Naw, the audience would never buy that. Too unbelievable.
Reviewer Roger Ebert thinks money is at the root of Hollywood's evil. "The use of the neo-Nazis is politically correct: Best to invent villains who won't offend any audiences. This movie can play in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Iraq without getting walkouts," he writes in today's Chicago Sun-Times.
"It's more likely that if a bomb ever does go off in a big city, the perpetrators will be True Believers whose certainty about the next world gives them, they think, the right to kill us in this one."
As Robert Wilonsky says in his review for New Times Broward Palm Beach, "When Affleck keeps getting work, the terrorists have won."
If you've seen the commercial with the charisma-challenged Ben Affleck mumbling about the evil Russian "neo-fascists," you might wonder why the movie didn't make the villains neo-communists, who after all are rearing their ugly heads again in Russia, as President Bush found out on his recent visit. But even though fascists and communists are two sides of the same totalitarian coin (Nazi, of course, stands for National Socialist), commie villains are also a no-no in La-La Land.
It's hard to think of a recent American movie whose villain isn't a white man. You might consider that strange, because nearly all the bigwigs in Hollywood are white men, but they're Guilty White Liberals who apparently are plagued by remorse over their inflated salaries.
Hollywood's Evil White Males, Part II
Ebert is an interesting character. A Bush-bashing, Clinton-loving leftist, he took gratuitous potshots at Attorney General John Ashcroft in his rave review of the critical and box-office bomb "The Majestic," which was a tissue-thin piece of propaganda for Hollywood communists. Yet Ebert dared to make these comments in his pan of the awful Jennifer Lopez movie "Enough," a "nasty item masquerading as a feminist revenge picture":
"The husband's swings of personality and mood are so sudden, and his motivation makes so little sense, that he has no existence beyond the stereotyped Evil Rich White Male. The fact that he preys on a poor Latino waitress is just one more cynical cliche. ...
"Slim gets discouraging advice from a lawyer ('There is nothing you can do. He will win.'). And then she gets training in self-defense from a martial arts instructor. Both of these characters are African-American, following the movie's simplistic moral color-coding. The day when the evil husband is black and the self-defense instructor is white will not arrive in our lifetimes."

Great. No walk-outs in the Muslim world, but why do we want to give them any more ideas?
And the La La Land fruitcakes wonder why we despise them so much??
There was a time when the old Jews that ran Hollywood...flame away, I don't care....Goldwyn, Meyer, Warner, Zanuck.....they all made for the most part pro-American movies which exalted the pluralistic culture of this nation rather than always tearing it down and hardly ever demonized White Christians. I'm not sure where all this began....I will tell you that The Contender is the worst of the lot in recent times. "Joe" with Peter Boyle may have been the worst of the late 60s drivel...worse even than the Billy Jack (heaving as I write) series. But even those blatant examples aside....nearly all movies these days carry some sort of subtle anti-White Male Christian Conservative (and Southern or Rural) bias. I did discover a Zion Films flick called Brigham City which was quite good and devoid of this crap. Michael Mann usually leaves this garbage out as well. Clancy's books/films have been PC-ized from the getgo. The James Earl Jones character for example.
I've gotten use to foreign films and sub titles.....one day I may even learn to speak French from the movies I've rented..LOL
Exactly the reason why I will never pay to see it, nor will I rent it. I refuse to watch a PC version of the Novel.
I haven't seen it yet. May not. I'm a huge Clancy fan but I can't picture Affleck as Jack Ryan ( is Jack a character in this one?) Affleck lacks gravitas.
Me too.
Hollywood studios are bidding millions on a movie script which has white horny Catholic priests scheming to blow up the known universe using holy water. Fortunately for all of us, in the end Julia and Richard rescue the humanity just in a nick of time.
Brigham City was excellent. The DVD is available now - I pre-ordered it and have had it for a month now. It is a great film and Richard Dutcher is a great Indie director. I enjoyed his first film - God's Army - and can't wait for his third.
