Part V-The idiotic News media

Attacking Liberalism Part V

“Jesus, you sound a lot like those fascists over at Fox” was the response Alec Baldwin gave to a conservative media commentator during a debate on politically incorrect. Hundred’s of people (including the other 3 debater’s and host) were thunderously applauding. But according to liberals this is only an anomaly. There is no such thing as a media bias in the news. One must seriously wonder what types of fumes are floating around the office if these people actually say that.

The media is as biased as it has ever been. This is not to say that they are conspiring in some way to suppress conservative thought. However, it does say that the media is comprised almost exclusively of leftists and that their bias is more of a natural one. Yet even after you explain it to them they are still clueless.

Take the million-mom march a couple of years ago. Anti-gun activists organized this march after the columbine tragedy. These groups attempted to sell the idea that they were non-partisan and just a bunch of worried moms with no political agenda. To anyone with a rational mind, this is ludicrous. Sadly the media was not rational. Katie Couric said on “Good morning America” that, “these are not liberals, they’re moms.” Tom Brokaw called the organizer of the march “a mother who has never been politically active. The list goes on and on. The only thing is they are lying. As the media research center points out the organizer, Donna Dees-Thomases was a former democratic hill staffer that has worked for two democratic senators.

Other instances of TV media bias include bleeping out the word “Jesus” from ABC’s the view. Brian Williams, the successor to Tom Brokaw, said that there was no liberal choice in the Democratic primary last year. No liberal choice? How about Bill Bradley who had an 85% liberal rating. Ted Kennedy has an 88%. An CBS reporter noted on the flat tax that “one economist said it should be tried somewhere else before tried here---like Albania.” How fair and balanced.

And it gets worse. James Reston, well acknowledged as the greatest pioneer of fair and balanced news, was quoted as saying “never before have so many of us in the media worked so hard to defeat a candidate as we have this year to defeat Ronald Reagan, and we have failed miserably"

However, nothing exemplifies the left biased in the media as the New York Times. To demonstrate just how bad the New York Times has gotten I quote a recent headline that said, “Crime is down---but Prison’s are crowded.” Wow, who could have thunked that up! The Times has on its staff one conservative, Bill Safire, who was put on only after constant drumming from the right in the 1970’s. They employ Paul Krugman, who has been trying to compare President Bush to the Taliban and insinuate that Bush is trying to damage senior citizens by privatizing social security. In fact, conservative websites devoit entire sections to pointing out errors and misstatements the Times Prints.

The Times even engage in political witch-hunts against people who do not agree with them. They recently had a long article on the faults of Sergio Berlusconi noting that he owns a lot of major TV networks and insinuated that his popularity was due to being able to coax the people into believing him. What he fails to mention is that most of the pundits on his networks hate him and almost all endorsed other candidates. But the most influential paper in the world does not need to be fair and balanced right?

Liberal pundits fire back and say that recently with the advent of Fox News and other media outlets, that they prove that the whole argument is wrong. No, it actually proves that there is a bias. The reason why Fox News and the like have thrived is that conservatives have been looking for a conservative news source for some time. When they find one that sort of fit their bill, they flock to it. CNN and MSNBC have been suffering ever since. Viewers left those networks precisely because they saw the bias.

But many others do not and the non-political person hears only the rants of the left without adequate counter-balance. Conservatives, however, have found ways to get around this source to much benefit. Despite the media witch-hunt against Ronald Reagan and George W Bush, they both were still elected. And the country has moved the right in the past 20 or so years.

Liberalism is making a comeback however. This is happening because the alliance of neo-conservative, traditionalist, and libertarian leaning people is beginning to break. Sadly, these can only lead towards a greater increase in liberalism. The left only exploits this to gain more power.

Part XI deals with how liberalism exploits the right to their benefit.

The "Media" are only doing what the stock analysts did at Merrill Lynch, advise "buy" on politicians that were bad investments. Someday (not in my lifetime) the public will understand that the Cronkite's sold the U.S. on Lyndon Johnson, and Brokaw-Rather-Jennings sold the U.S. on Bill Clinton. The press is a shill for the Democratic Party, just as investment bankers are shills for their company and its clients. The stock market deals in money and power, the press in power and money.

So how did Reagan win? Carter was an Edsel!

The response from the left to Fox News is hillarious. How long have they tirelessly worked to refute the argument that the media leans way the hell to the left? Answer: ever since the media started to lean to the left of most of the country. How long did it take them to criticized Fox News for being conservative? Probably all of two seconds after it started.
Conservatives know Fox News is conservative. It's not as right-wing as I'd like it to be, but it is without a doubt to the right of where the mainstream media is. Liberals deny all day long that the media is biased, but then turn around and throw away a few shots at the Wall Street Journal and Fox News.
I think Fox News is misguided in its campaign to call itself "Fair and Balanced". I wish we could just drop the facade of objectivism. It doesn't exist, and everyone knows it. There may be a bit of hypocracy in some conservatives for celebrating Fox News, but I think pretty much every conservative admits that it is what it is. Liberals will keep on rationalizing, lying, and deluding themselves. They are dyed-in-the-wool hypocrites.
I think what's best about liberals is also what's worst about them. It's fun to know that their arguments, ALL their arguments, have no basis in reality. But it's saddening beyond belief to realize that an intellectually bankrupt and irrational system of belief (if, in fact, you can call it a "system") could be so effective in winning the hearts and minds of the country.
