I found part of the thread. Since lone star annie hasn't returned to respond, I thought I would give a partial defence.

While a many may paint her as a liberal from DU, consider what is actually being suggested. Quite a few people here always complain that the DEMs march in lock step, or are having their arms twisted by Daschle, etc. What I see happening here is formalizing the same thing. Mean-spirited or not, intolerant or not, at the very least, it comes off as sounding hypocritical.

As for the church comment: huh?

"...at the very least, it comes off as sounding hypocritical."

There are two different world-views here, the secular-humanism of the "lock-step" Democrats, and the Biblical-world-view of the Christian Conservatives.
Sure, there are a lot of grey areas, not many things are black-and-white (although some things must be in a Biblical world-view).
If one has no belief in God, and/or thinks the Bible is gibberish, than you would feel more comfortable as a Dem or a Libertarian.
Why is it intolerant when those with a Biblical world-view would prefer the candidates that they give thier money and time to, to be like in mindset?
Setting standards IS NOT hypocritical - it is realistic, unless you're a member of the NEA.

Well here I am to respond. I am a Republican who is also a delegate to the GOP TX convention in Dallas this weekend. I am precinct secretary and am presently working for John Cornyn and my congressional candidate. I am bilingual and will be working in the Hispanic neighborhoods to widen the tent of the GOP. The analogy about some churches may be somewhat a stretch but I have been in those types of churches and they tend to be dogmatic. That being said, this loyalty test is rediculous and will make our jobs more difficult when trying to broaden our party base. I ran into some of these people at our Senatorial convention and I am telling you they were a real turn off.
