Radical attorney Lynne Stewart stand accused of abetting terrorists. Her response: 'Emphatically not guilty.'
By Leonard Post - Leonard Post is a freelance writer.
The black-robed judge turned to his clerk at 11:59 a.m. and said sharply, "Call her office." Before the clerk could reach for the phone, Lynne Feltham Stewart, attorney-at-law, stiff-kneed from arthritis, entered the courtroom in black skirt and blouse, wearing sensible shoes and schlepping a cloth shopping bag that contained files for a client's case.
She was one minute early, a reflection of the fine line she has walked all her life.

There is a Constitutional need for Crimial Defense attorneys to protect the innocent and guily alike from an overzealous government prosecution however, Ms. Stewart crossed the line of providing able legal consul for Mr. Abdel-Rahman's defense. Instead, she chose to aid and abet his criminal and terrorist network from within prison despite court order all the time hiding behind the attorney-client priviledge. In this case, it makes you wonder who acted with more criminal intent to damage our society, the radical Arab prisoner or the radical American attorney?
Prior to Abdel-Rahman, Stewart's other clients were also cancers on law-abiding society. Sometimes the wheels of justice do indeed turn slowly.

If guilty, she should spend the rest of her life in prison.

The way this article is framed it is 95% about the acts and deeds of St. Lynne, with just a smidge of info on what got her busted. Ya think, maybe, the press leans left? Jess a little?
To: jriemer
Her story is sad, because she doesn't seem to realize that she's way out in left field. Her fellow students shunned her, her fellow school teachers ignored her suggestions like she wasn't there. You'd think she'd get the message, nobody could work with her because she never tried to work with them. She apparently refused to accommodate herself to any system in any way, she just wanted to fight and manipulate everyone around her.

Even the worst scum have a right to effective counsel, and revolting left-wing lawyers like Ms. Stewart serve a function in providing counsel to those who might not otherwise get it.
That said, she seems to have crossed the line and will probably pay for it.

No-Truce,
I couldn't agree more and there is a reason why the Newsweek article reads the way it does. The following statement is a generalization: The Media loves Criminal Defense Attorneys. It suits their politics and their world view. Criminals are not always violent offenders but "people that need to be understood" or "adult childern". Criminals are just victims of another sort.
IMHO, a Constituionally defined Criminal Defense Attorney is a check against adventurist government prosecution and not enabler of people with readily identifiable behavioral and social problems.

There's sometimes about a 5-10 year difference between defending and abetting.
To: jriemer
She's right about guns.
Wrong about everything else.
To: jriemer
She is anti-capitalism. Religion plays no role in her life. Both, though, are permitted in her family. Only racism, sexism and being a Yankees fan are banned. I can't say this shocks me at all.
While Stewart, at first blush, might appear a stalwart liberal, she should not be mistaken for one; she is a radical lawyer and she is defiant
A liberal, radical lawyer, or left-wing nut, I don't see any difference.

A love letter from Leonard Post to Lynne Stewart. How nice. However, his description of her philosophy does not paint a picture of someone who would not abet terror.

This is the first time I have seen the word "radical" to describe a leftist, although the article should have labelled her a "left wing extremist". This article is a puff piece, and pretty much ignores Stewart motives; which are all based in Leftist Anti-Americanism.

She's a commie and a dog-faced freak. She and Robert Hanson, Aldrich Ames, and all America's traitors should hang as traitors did in the beginning of our republic. I only wish Bubba and Hillary were in the mix. Rope for all!
To: jriemer
She should be hung for treason on the same tree limb as Hanoi Jane.

Rather than Jane Fonda, she reminds me a lot of that deluded Lori Berenson who is now cooling her heels in a Peruvian jail. Both blindly self-righteous and entirely in thrall to marxist theory. Oh, and both thoroughly convinced they, and they alone, hold the keys to truth. Anything they do is justified because of their noble goals. Too bad they didn't catch this one as early as they caught Lori, probably would have prevented all kinds of mischief.

She reminded me of Kathlenn Soliah. She didn't do it, they're just picking on her, it was the right thing to do and she had a darn good reason.
