Since the American people (including the so-called "conservatives") consistently demonstrate their stupidity I would be surprized to see many democRATS removed from office. If we were serious about the nation's future there would be massive RAT loses this fall.

Didn't we (republicans) control the house, senate and the whitehouse just a few months ago before Jeffords defection? And what did those republicans do to advance the conservative agenda? Nothing.

It appears that it really doesn't matter who controls what...just a bunch of power hungry whores that are willing to beleive in anything if it gets them elected/re-elected.

The changes are within the margin of error. The claim of a swing toward the gop may be natural polling variation or it may not.

And what did those republicans do to advance the conservative agenda?

Tax cut. Repealed abortion funding.

Both to you and the poster after you, I think we need to delineate between "Republicans" and conservatives. As Jeffords showed, merely defeating Dems isn't sufficient. We must replace them with conservatives, not just "Republicans."

By this I don't mean people who will score 100 on the conservative litmus test, but a "critical mass" of enough conservatives on any GIVEN issue to ensure the votes we want. For ex., despite some of their goofy views, I was proud of my Ohio Senators for BOTH voting to convict Clinton and both voting against CFR.

See my post to the fellow above you. I think the problem is that the GOP has not done a good enough job differentiating between "Republicans" and "conservatives," so we need to.

If you gave me 54 Richard Shelbys or 54 Jon Kyls, we would have virtually our entire agenda, quick-fast and in a hurry.

The GOP had a slim majority for a few months and they passed a tax cut which the Democrats bitterly opposed and which the Democrats used every parlimentary trick in the book to water down and delay.

Yes, Jeffords is a traitor and he lied to the people and misrepresented himself when he ran for re-election. But that doesn't mean we should turn on those who ran on tax cuts and then voted for them.

As you point out, Jeffords defected. Imagine what a weak situation it must have been to hold a majority so thin that a single defection of a member whose ideals so contrasted with Republican party principles could have such dramatic impact on control of the Senate.

The weakness you see now was present even before the defection because of who Jeffords is. If Jeffords hadn't defected, we would be awarding McCain the honors which Jeffords now receives for upholding Democrat "ideals".

Irrelevant. In GENERIC polls, the Dems have to do substantially better, because of redistricting and because there is no advantage to either party in the House gained by having only 1/3 of the members come up for re-election, as in the senate. Yes, we have a few more seats to defend, but those are dwarfed by the new GOP pickups in redistricting. Ohio will automatically gain one GOP seat---though hardly a rock-hard conservative (Mike Turner).

And what did those republicans do to advance the conservative agenda? Nothing.

1. Tax Cuts (never would've happened under Gore)
2. Rejected KYOTO Treaty (never would've happened under Gore)
3. Refused to sign on to U.N. Crimes Court (Gore would've signed it)
4. Stopped federal funding of abortions (Gore would've tripled it)
5. Continued support for faith based initiatives
6. The war on TERROR - Taking it to the enemy (Gore would've done a "Clinton" and maybe sent a few missles)
7. Total ban on human cloning (Gore would've asked to be cloned) 8. Do I need to keep going? I can ....

The interesting thing to watch is that the Democrats keep going back to the same mud-throwing and scare tactics. After so many public failures of those attacks, are they really likely to succeed in November?

I don't see it.

The Democrats have no issues. They aren't touting some great new "idea" and claiming that the Republicans are blocking it, for instance. Without any ideas, they can't win. It is the Republicans who campaigned for, backed, and passed tax cuts. It is the Republicans who killed the Kyoto Global Warming treaty. It is the Republicans who are backing our national missile defense.

Americans like big ideas. National Missile Defense and tax cuts are big ideas.

Americans dislike high gas prices. Not drilling in the ANWR and enacting strict emmissions standards raise gas prices. That's what the Democrats are backing.

The Democrats have already recognized that "gun control" is a losing issue for them, so they have forbidden their candidates from putting that issue back in the press. Clearly they are beginning to recognize that they are supporting losing issues.

In the grand scheme of things, the Republicans stand to sweep the Democrats in November if this situation remains static. Consider that even hardcore Democrats are fighting amongst themselves with half of Democrats supporting the Palestinians and the other half supporting Israel. Democrats are fighting amongst themselves with union members supporting drilling in the ANWR and opposing new emmission standards for autos, while the greens in the Democratic Party maintain the opposite stance.

Democrats are now a house divided. Walk into any Democratic Party activity with a sign supporting either Palestinians or drilling in the ANWR and you will start an enormous brawl among their own loyalists.

That's the recipe for Democratic Party failure. Just add the right ingrediants and let them bake themselves...

It is all about the judges. Make no mistake that is the underlying battle behind what the demorats are trying to do and why we need to send Tom Daschole packing. Whether we totally agree with GWB or not if we get control of the Senate back conservative judges who interrupt the law on the bench instead of making law will get approved and Bush will have a chance to nominate one if not two Supreme Court Justices over the next six years. Yes, I said six because it looks like there is no way he can't win reelection. NOW LETS TAKE BACK THE SENATE FREEPERS!

You forgot pulling out of the ABM treaty, moving ahead on Star Wars AND at the same time pulling off an arms control agreement. Lets see Gore do that.
