Let's see now. Just the other day, a judge in New Jersey declined to impose a prison sentence on a middle-aged public-school teacher convicted of seducing one of her seventh-graders. "I don't really see the harm that was done and certainly society doesn't need to be worried," opined Superior Court Judge Bruce A. Gaeta. I'm pretty sure we all agree with the ACLU here. Frightening, huh?
Yes indeed. But it's too bad the NYTimes is more concerned about PC in Regents exams than PC in airline security.
I didn't listen, but it sounds great. Seriously, the ACLU has at its core an important mission, and they have done some good things, but they usually go too far on idiot cases.
For an example on the good side, do you have an ACLU bust card? You should. It perfectly spells out your rights and responsibilities when faced with the authorities. It can help you keep from doing something stupid and illegal while at the same time protecting your rights against a belligerent cop.
That's a good way to put it.
Big deal. Libertarians march pretty much in lock-step with the ACLU on most matters.
Yeah. That's what it's for. Just ask any con in the state pen. They're all innocent victims of da man.
Having the ACLU invoke Political Correctness is akin to Clinton lecturing us on fidelity or perjury.
From my point of view, it's for my protection from abuse. I like to know what I can or don't have to do if a cop stops me on the street for no reason, and what not to do so that his illegal actions don't make me do something that is in itself illegal.
I don't mean this as an insult, but are you the type who always says "Sure officer, you can come in my house / search my car" when you know you have done nothing wrong?
