Pierce County police seek armed home intruders
06/06/2002
MILTON, Wash. - Police in Pierce County are searching for three home invasion robbers, who fled after the home's owner opened fire with his own gun.
Police said the intruders broke through a sliding glass door around midnight and forced a woman to the floor. Then a man with an AK-47 rifle came in and fired three shots into the ceiling, causing the intruders to flee.
No one was hurt.
The incident occurred at 70th Avenue East in the town of Milton, just north of Tacoma.
Police consider the men armed and very dangerous. The residents said the men all wore bulletproof vests, and that this isn't the first time the home has been invaded.

I have never heard of multiple home invasions at the same house.

I have.
Here's what's really odd -- armed intruders wearing kevlar are expecting a fire fight. And yet these guys ran when a guy outnumbered 3-1 fired into the ceiling.

Three head shots would have saved the trouble of patching the ceiling and possibly ended the owners home invasion problems at the same time.

Yeah - what's up with firing into the ceiling instead of center mass or head shots? Cleaning up the blood would be easier than fixing the roof - unless of course they were friends. (Or maybe a dealer/customer relationship.)

It is kind of hard to picture the homeowner with an AK knockoff willing to confront the invaders but being pacifistic enough to go out of his way not to harm them.

I suspect this homeowner is either on the shady side of the law himself, or runs a cash business where he comes in contact with scumbags all the time (pawnbroker, bail bondsman, check cashing/short-term loans, etc.)

Do you know what a bullet to the head does to the average room? Hint: You need tweezers, paint, and a lot of time.

Yes,I know.I've seen the results twice,very fresh.
I just hate to work on anything over my head or worse yet, think about home invaders running around in one piece anywhere.

Hmm...a real AK-47? That would make it very interesting indeed inasmuch as possession of a fully-automatic firearm by civilians is illegal in the state of Washington, even if you have the pertinent federal tickets. Nevertheless, it is unusual to find a home-invasion burglary hereabouts, even in liberal Seattle. It's a shall-issue state, and there are 239,000 CCW holders...and that's carry licenses.

When I initially read the title....I thought that Pierce County was experiencing a low occurence of crime....and had decided to take out a Help Wanted Ad.
