Geeee, I don't think you can pin that one on Reagan. He went to Grenada and rescued our students - the media was outraged because he didn't tell them what he was going to do, and when they got wind of it, the military kept them out of the way while we did the rescue.
I also remember a country called Libya. I believe it took only a few airstrikes to totally destroy their airbase and deny their idiot leader the opportunity to attack us.
I agree.
What puzzles me, is why the Republican Party doesn't sponsor more/any insightful polls and get them published in Wash Times, NY Post, etc... there are media outlets that would accept such polls as news. Maybe I've just missed them, but I don't see the Republican Party correcting the lib-dem-media polls that distort public perception.
Why isn't the Rep Party more aggressive on the defense/offense in these polls? It seems relatively easy (at least to me as an outsider)...if the existing opinion is already favorable and just being mis-polled and mis-reported, that seems easy to fix. Why isn't it?
Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhaaaaaaaaaaa ..
Yes they do, and this is their usual mantra - PROJECTION! Projection is where you accuse your enemy of doing something evil - while in actuality, you are the one doing the evil. The game is to neutralize your exposure - you can do this because while the public is looking at the faults of your enemy, you can look only partially culpable because you were doing it too. This tells people - all politicians are crooks. We know this isn't true, but the dems use this technique to cover their deeds as only "everybody's doing it", which somehow makes it seem less evil.
This technique has always worked for the dems/libs, but since 9-11, it's not working any more. Fortunately for us, the dems have not figured it out yet (and neither has the media). Let them continue to use this method - it will always come back to bite them.
If you know the source of this I would love to know what/who it is. If verifiable, this would be great stuff with which to hit some liberals right between the eyes.
This is a great statement! And ... it's why the mainstream media hates conservative radio.
That's a question I've been asking myself for some while myself.
Possible answers I can think of:
None of these sounds very realistic, except perhaps #2. Which might in fact be a good strategy...provided you mix in the right amount of assertiveness. As Rummy does, for example. Or as Reagan did.
But it seems to me that most Republicans haven't got their mix right. So, whoever is going to be the next Ronald Reagan, please hurry up! We need you!
And ... that is precisely why the repubs don't use them. Conservatives don't govern by what polls say because that's too much like "democracy", and we don't live in a democracy. The repubs don't use them to decide what they're going to do (at least most of them). Polls say - I don't know which way to go so you tell me what to do. As a leader, if you don't know what to do - then you have no right to be considered a leader.
--but will he take it?
To clarify my point, I think Republicans should more forcefully use accurate polls, not to govern, but to inform the electorate of true level of conservative support and the reasonable intelligence of the average voter.
I talk with many friends in church who mistakenly think they are the only ones that have a 'conservative' view on something, they believe that the headlines and polls reflect the majority opinion. That 'nearly all red' map of where the country voted for Bush was a surprise to them.
My advocacy of aggressive accurate Republican counter-polling is to get the message out that in fact the lib-dem viewpoint is the minority.
Exactly. Meaningless numbers that don't support the headline. The type of folks that voted for ClintonBlame in this poll reflect the tiny number of informed conservatives like you'll find right here. No coup in opinion, I'm sorry to say.
MM
Don't forget this number plummeted within days after Bush took office, as Clinton's various pardon/White House trashing/etc scandals boiled over. His numbers fell through the floor and remain there to this day.
I know you're talking about polls which more truthfully reflect reality - however, I don't think that is the answer. The reason is - once it becomes known where the polls originated, the bashing would begin again regarding the results of the polls. What is to be gained by that?
