I guess I never heard his job approval number plummeted after he left office. That's also good to hear. But I remember Rush saying (before Clinton left office) that his personal approval number was 25% - I nearly choked on my lunch.

I've never forgotten how NBC's Tom Brokjaw threw that 67% number in Bush's face when he interviewed Bush and Laura a day or so before Bush was sworn in. Bush's comment was, "well, I'm the one who's going to be sworn in". It was so Bush.

You might take a look at post #34, and chain forward to the replies, re polling and the Republican message.

Well put, Freeper extraordinaire, well PUT!We know this isn't true, but the dems use this technique to cover their deeds as only "everybody's doing it", which somehow makes it seem less evil.

This technique has always worked for the dems/libs, but since 9-11, it's not working any more. [I agree, CyberAnt, completely. I have a strong feeling that it is failing them in ways they have not even considered yet. The days of Carville and Begala and Hillary and Ira Magaziner and Harold Ickes and their clever if cruel manipulation of the press is on the threshold of crumbling. Ya can pick up on this everywhere. And it a ABOUT TIME!] Fortunately for us, the dems have not figured it out yet (and neither has the media). Let them continue to use this method - it will always come back to bite them.

You want the RNC to compete with the $100 billion dollar propaganda machine of Hollywood and the networks? Impossible! And that's not even taking into account the liberal public school system and the liberal universites, add another trillion dollars for those two. The RNC can't do it. We have to do it. We're not doing it, we'd rather throw rocks at each other. We continue to slide toward socialism.

There was all that talk after 9-11 that President Bush was only attacking Afghanistan to put in an oil pipeline for his oil buddies. And these talkers all claimed that Bush already had war plans made before 9-11 to attack Afghanistan in October.

And a few weeks ago with the "Bush Knew" headlines, there was a mention that there was a plan to get bin Laden that had just made it to his desk a couple days before 9-11 that he hadn't yet seen or signed off on.

I don't think Bush was unaware of the threat of bin Laden or lackidaisical about doing something about him. But he was elected late, had a short transition, came into a White House with no W's on the keyboards and the phone lines cut or switched, and his appointments for deputy and midlevel positions were held up and most still not approved by 9-11.

There was a lot going on...tax cut, EP-3 incident, getting to know European and world leaders, furor over nixing Kyoto and decision to go ahead with MDS, trying to get education bill done before coming school year, Jeffords defection, formulating an energy plan, energy crisis in California, furor over arsenic in water, etc.

Just saying that in a democracy where we change leaders every eight year at a minimum, that we are much more vulnerable in a President's first year in office than at any other time.

How about a jail cell for Bubba next to Mickael Skakel. Bill and Michael can regale each other with stories about cigars and tree climbing.

Bombing of marine barracks, Beirut, October 23, 1983:

Simultaneous suicide truck-bomb attacks were made on American and French compounds in Beirut, Lebanon. A 12,000-pound bomb destroyed the U.S. compound, killing 242 Americans.

Seems to me that 1983 was pre-Clinton. What happened between then and 1992?

The blame game is an interesting one.

Yes...and perhaps certain misdeeds done with golf clubs.

re your #66

I won't hold my breath waiting for congressional democrats to apologize for obstructing Presidential appointments or for the vandalism done by their spoiled brats as they exited the White House in January 2001.

What a bunch of trash. The breakdown with the intelligence community goes back a lot further than Clinton and I am no fan of Clintons.

I disagree.

During Clinton's two terms, the whole FBI-CIA apparatus was directed at a.)digging dirt on congressmen with the files as their playbook; b.)investigating physicians for medicare fraud (a large, large part of the FBI did this while the Atta boys were in flight school); and c.)investigating whites in so-called militias who weren't doing anything wrong.

Oh, yeah, I forgot: They were incinerating children and adults in a Waco religious minority, for the misdemeanor arms violations (alleged) of one of them.

And, they were sniping at children being held by their mother in cabins in the wilderness, who, like all the above persons, were doing nothing wrong.

Face it, PoppingSmoke, the gravity of Clinton's abuse of these two agencies exceeds any inefficiency or ineptitude by any other previous administration, by a factor of a thousand.

Your screen name says it all, you are just popping smoke to try to hide the truth about your friend, Clinton.

"As a survivor of the WTC attacks, I am making it one of my missions in life to see to it that his primary legacy is 9/11/2001."

I believe that Clinton's blame in this is far greater than 99% of all of believe. When he had several opertunities to have Bin Laden handed to us during the 90's and flatly refused to take him. There is something REALLY rotten that went on.

I mean in the early to mid 90's Clinton would take campain contributions from ANY ONE!

Where were you at the WTC on 9-11?

Agreed. The breakdown does go farther back then Clinton. However the accelerated unraveling of both agencys can directly be attributed to Bill Clinton. He implimented political Correctness into the agency where no muslims or arabs were allowed to be profiled. He defunded and demoralized both agencys. Only responded to actions directly aimed at him and not his country, as well as use the agency against law abiding citizens and politicians. Janet Reno and Louis Freeh will go down in history as the 2 most incompetant boobs most responsible for 9/11...unless Doris Kearns Goodwin is allowed to continue writting history. (She can use NY Times Clinton love fest articles as well as DNC & James Carvile spin and Doonesbury cartoons for material to steal from and base as fact)

Agreed, Clinton did a lot of harm. But remember where were the Republican Oversight Committees? They too did a lot of harm by focusing solely on Monica, while the rest went deeper into the black hole.....

You have no clue...You can blame anyone "ONE" person you wish. Then again if you can't face reality then I am sorry for you. Yes Clinton did a lot of harm. So where were the Republican Oversight Committees? Your politics blinds you. You I am afraid are part of the problem, not the solution.

True, but defense of the nation falls solely on the President! If you remember, the Oversight commitees tried to investigate into some of the more serious acusations of Clinton (Chinese funny money, Loral satellite sales, Lippo group, etc) but was blocked and stalled by Janet Reno. Granted the Oversight commitee should have looked into some of the more serious aspects, but when you have a felon running wild, well a dog catcher chasing 20 dogs still can only catch 1 at a time.

"Just saying that in a democracy where we change leaders every eight year at a minimum, that we are much more vulnerable in a President's first year in office than at any other time."

This is very, very true. The limited transition time did not help either. However, Bush knew in late January that something was amiss. No he did not know to what extent. But he knew that the last eight years made a mess in DC. The infighting in the White House, State Department and the Pentagon was getting worse. Many with influence complained about the lousy house cleaning. Heck I know folk who worked directly for Albright at DOS and who are still in power today. Why? They're politics stinks, they just change they're strips with the political season, but their politics stays the same. They propel the same positions. Why has the administration allowed this? Yes its take time, but 911 changed everything. Speed, direction, firmness is what is still needed.

Afghanistan was not for oil. It was because the American people were getting antsy. There really was no tactical plan. Special Forces went in with really no plan. That is why many did not see an emerging strategy develop. That is why there was waffling by the White House and Pentagon, one day it was, we are doing our own thing, and the Northern Alliance is doing theirs. The next day, we were in support. Three times the President told the Northern Alliance not to take Kubal. But they did anyway, and it was with our help through late.

The real trick to Afghanistan is that Special Forces did what they were trained to. Improvise, adapt and overcome. General Lambert has a lot to be proud of. However we made many mistakes in Afghanistan. A lot of infighting was going on at the Pentagon. We need to start fighting terrorism seriously by hammering either by force or politics those Countries who propel terrorism like, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, Kuwait, and even North Korea.

But this is still not happening.
