I was wondering about the costs of Norton. I had 2001, and soon my subscription will be running out - what do you pay to be able to continue live updates? Is it better just to buy a new 2002? I got klez at least 20 times in the past few months, my Norton caught it, but after that for sure I don't want to go without virus protection!

I use Norton for anti-virus and Sygate as a firewall (they offer a free version for home use). If you use a router be sure to change the default password as well. Between a router, fireall, and antivirus you should be fairly well protected.

I like my Norton...it has protected my computer many times and now the virus updates are automatic...you don't have to update them yourself.

I was hit with a bad virus last fall and I thought my system was toast. I really didn't have the money to invest in an anti-virus program but after talking to a lot of people I scraped together enough to invest in Norton System Works 2002 and I have never regretted it. Not only did it repair thousands of infected files, but it does do the automatic updates and the added security I have had since then makes it well worth the $60 investment, and there is a rebate, although I forgot how much. I would re sub with Norton 2000. It has **everything** for $39.95. If you have a credit card you can pay online and download in about 40 minutes. Very secure, professional and trustworthy

Let me add my 2 cents worth. I used to use ZAPro 3 until a backdoor trojan took it out. I use MacAfees and have for years. The Backdoor Trojan was only about a week old it the time I received it, and the DAT didn't have it yet. The next one did, but the damage was already done. I have since dumped ZA and now I use IPCop

IPCop requires its own computer, 486 or better. It is a Linux based Firewall (Kernal 2.2, the next version will be 2.4). It will support Cable, DSL, and Dialup connections. Found a 56k V92 External Modem at Compusa for $50!!!

My dialup connection REALLY flys now. When you remove all the overhead caused by Dialup Networking, a Winmodem, and the Firewall all on the same computer, it speeds it up a LOT!!!

Just install some NIC's a hub and hook the whole family up. Cheers!!!

Computer Associates InoculateIT does automatic/live updates as well. It's what we use at our location with over 1500 machines. Works extremely well.

Norton is the "Norton" of Symantic. The company that makes Norton products. ( anti-virus, systemworks, and a lot of other stuff)

My security triad is Norton, ZoneAlarm, and AdAware.

At work we use PCcillin. I don't really see any advantage of PCcillin over Norton, but the tech guys wanted it and I like to keep them happy (they do outstanding work).
