Here's what works for me:
Norton for virus protection and ZoneAlarm for hacker protection.
I update the Norton Antivirus software once a week on Fri night.
I've been using this system for 3+ years and have yet to have any problems. Trapped plenty of viruses. Thwarted plenty of attacks.
Works for me.

One other thought. If you get Norton's, buy JUST the antivirus software. They have other software (SystemWorks) that I can't recommend. Butts heads with Windows too much.

Thanks for your post. My subscription will be running out soon and thanks to all this helpful advice I think I am going with Norton 2002.
I know someone who when they got their computer a Norton Symatec (or whatever their new name is) CD came with it. They ran and utilized the program, when the (I think 6 months) subscription ran out they let it go and had a huge shut down and they could not even turn their computer on. Their hard drive had to be dropped off at a local puter expert guy and the guy confirmed a trojan back door virus.

That combination works great for me and can't be beat.
