UNA-USA Study Finds High-School, Jr.-High-School Textbooks Inadequate For Teaching Future Leaders About the U.N., International Affairs

(snip)

"The U.N. plays an increasingly important role in American lives and is a wellspring of information about how the world works, but few students know that," Ambassador Luers said. "The U.N. not only invented the concept of peacekeeping; it works extensively to promote human rights and sustainable development worldwide."

The review examined 17 of the nation's most widely used high-school and junior-high-school history and government textbooks. While taking into account differing liberal and conservative views on the subject, and acknowledging tensions between nationalist and globalist viewpoints, the report criticizes the shallowness of U.S. textbooks' international affairs content.
