Isn't the Shriners part of them? They do wonderful work giving free care to child burn victims.

The reason why it was banned was because the Masons ran their organizations by using a constitution and by holding elections, something dictators decry. Dictators do not want their subjects to know what it's like to rule by a constitution and by having elections.

Masons are usually executed in countries ruled by dictators.
