Gays Feel 'Blamed'
Oregon Magazine ^ | June 12, 2002 | Larry Leonard

June 12, 2002, 3:00 A.M. PDT, homosexuals perceive unfair criticism emanating from press coverage of the Catholic sex scandal. (Here's a news item from this morning's Drudge Report.)

Church calls acts 'disordered,' gays feel 'blamed'

DALLAS Parked just outside the youth center of the Cathedral of Hope, the nation's largest gay church is a white RV emblazoned with the legend "Jesus is Lord of all." For gay and lesbian Catholics, that simple statement is at the heart of the sexual abuse crisis in the church. Many are convinced that a witch hunt is underway that gays are being blamed for the continuing avalanche of pedophilia complaints against Catholic priests.

Poor darlings.

Let's see, PBS has a program called "In The Life" which promotes the homosexual lifestyle, Barney Frank got a pass from the press when his boyfriend was caught running a homosexual prostitution operation in his basement, Ellen Degenerite was praised for her introduction of homosexual foreplay on a network primetime sitcom, Dr. Laura was blasted into oblivion by coordinated homosexual pressure brought to bear on the networks and program advertisers, not one program about homosexual killings of heterosexuals has ever been produced, let alone aired, and all our public schools from kindergarten to College have as part of their curriculum homosexual studies and sensitivity training. (In April, there was a national day of silence for homosexual victims in America's public schools.)

On the other hand, there has never been a program on PBS or any other major network that has told the truth about AIDS -- that worldwide plague brought to us first by African homosexual activity.....(snip)What must be done so that homosexuals don't feel "blamed"? I have it!....(snip)

Doesn't mince words, does he?

Am I reading the intro wrong or am I to understand the nation's largest gay church is in DALLAS?

Well, then, the coverage must present the problem as being sexual molestation of female parishoners by heterosexual priests. You say it's hard to find examples of that? Almost every example has been homosexual predation of young boys?

Damn. That one had possibilities. Well, that leaves just one option. Press coverage on this subject that is true must be considered hate speech. Reporters who accurately describe the situation must be jailed. When you think about it, this would not be dumping the 1st Amendment. Not all of it, anyway.

Besides, feelings must take precedence. All truth is relative. The idea that there is some sort of fixed truth is ridiculous. Social needs can be better served by a press which reports what they should report, not what happened.

Every Stalinist knows that.

Actually, they don't need examples -- we now hear carte-blanche statements asserting that there are just as many cases of priests molesting females. Of course, there are no stats to back that up, but since when does truth matter?

It says, "Jesus is Lord of all," not "Jesus is Enabler of all."

I'm surprised it's not Houston, which I've heard is kind of a gay mecca. When I visited there fifteen or so years ago, one of the locals claimed that at night, gangs of gay rollerskaters(!) would take over the deserted downtown parking towers. They'd crowd into the elevators, ride to top, and spiral their way back down.

This from a Jewish perspective, yet one of the most compelling, and courageous approaches
from a faith perspective on this issue that I've yet come across.

and all our public schools from kindergarten to College have as part of their curriculum homosexual studies and sensitivity training.

Not to nitpick, but this is just simply an exaggeration. I never had a "sensitivity" class in college, and I was there from 1993-1997, in the height of PCness. And the word "curriculum" implies required courses. There were no required homosexual classes either.

The article is good, but when an author starts making broad, inacurate statements, it doesn't help the cause.

Archbishop Julian Herranz puts the whole Catholic Scandal in perpective:"Pedophilia is a concrete form of Homosexuality"

The poor homos are grasping for straws now that their evil in the church is finally being outed?

Pedophilia is a concrete form of Homosexuality

So a man who molests young girls is a homosexual?

In the context of the church scandel it is. You see, 90-95% of all the molestations have been male priests and boys. Yet the media keeps calling it "pedophilia" to blur the fact that it is gays that are the problem in the church. Plus, most of those homosexual molesters go after post-pubescent boys, and that is called something else than "pedophilia" (I forgot its name though).

Okay...there was just no context with the given quote and it sounded like a general statement.

IIRC, it was pretty much "unofficial". Some school districts might have promoted it to some extent (key word: might), but it was never a mandatory situation (the nature of the "event" kind of restricted it to voluntary engagement only).

Have you got some reference material that will shore up your statement.

I'm not arguing the point. It's just that I've heard everything from 60%-95% and I want a concrete number.

And what, exactly, were these "homo-victims", victims of? Were they victims of preferential laws and policies? If so, I wish I had joined in to mourne the loss of another freedom for the rest of us.
