Adaware does a pretty good job of identifying and removing Spyware.

Sounds like a good reason to
switch. I never have to deal with this garbage on my computer or waste my time trying to find it and remove it.

bump for later reference.
It's been rumored that one can make enough money from spyware to finance a run for the US Senate.

I wouldn't be so sure that there isn't Spyware on your Mac -- it's just that no one has written software to detect it.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware is definitely recommended to check and clean your computer--and it's free. Some of these spywear programs not only report back on you, but can crash your computer if they try to go on-line while you are doing something else. Gibson's OptOut was a nifty little program, but he stopped developing it after Ad-Aware got ahead of the game.

For music file sharing folks,
Winmx is a good choice. No bundled spyware, no ads, no BS.

Since MacOS X is based and is UNIX, it makes it very simple to see what software is running on the computer. Also the software would require a local root exploit (which is very, very, very, very rare on BSD systems) to install spyware on it. Windows is built for advertisers to flood you with ads, MacOS X makes it very simple to prevent them -- I never see banner ads on the internet or popups without having to buy special software or use a third party browser.

I don't suppose the NSA or FBI could possibly be smart enough to fund a company which puts spyware on people's machines by masquerading as an anti-spyware program... /sarcasm..

True, but since many Mac users are utter morons, that capability will probably not help them.

My heterosexuality prevents me from using a Mac.
