Burke was of the opinion that the aristocracy represented a stratum of ideological continuity, that they protected the ascendant virtues of a society and passed that mindset to their heirs along with their estates. Of course, we've learned that hereditary aristocracy often begets the decadence demonstrated in America by the likes of the Kennedys.

Nevertheless, the perpetuation of a cultural heritage is the cornerstone of conservatism, despite the fact that its champions are somewhat more plebian these days.
