Sure, the victim is just as dead no matter what the motivation, but the purpose of hate crime legislation is to specifically punish the motivation of the attacker, not just the crime itself.

Equal protection under the law is one of those outmoded Christian principles which must be discarded in order to ensure a truly multicultural society worldwide. However, until someone can convince me of the need for a worldwide multicultural society, I'll continue to resist such nonsense as hate crime laws.
