I've been watching a bit of the world cup and I find it a great sport to watch. I've never been into it before. I may not make it all night (sleep calls) but I know a lot of people will be. If you are watching, tune in here.
The USA soccer team site has some interesting stats about todays match.
GO USA!

Ooops, maybe this doesn't belong in breaking news. (Although it is going to break in about 20 minutes.) Apologies, all.

The game has yet to start and this is the scene on one L.A. street about 20 minutes ago.........

I will be watching, and am pleased to see hooliganism has now migrated to soccer! (Whereas before, it was usually limited to March Madness and Broncos victories.)

Yup. That L.A.. I've seen dozens and dozens of cars sporting Mexican flags in the last week. (A lot also have the Stars and Stripes flying as well.) It could get interesting in some neighborhoods if Mexico loses.

Granted, hooliganism was always soccer-related...just not here.

From the Official Website: United States President George W. Bush called U.S. Men's National Team head coach Bruce Arena and the team at 11 a.m. on Monday morning in Jeonju, Korea to wish the team good luck in today's epic USA-Mexico Round of 16 World Cup clash. In greeting the team, Bush informed the players of the American public's excitement centering on the team's World Cup success, even "for those of us who don't know much about soccer." In accepting the call, Arena did not mince words when he told the President that "the U.S. team would give a performance that all America would be proud of." In fairness, for every isolated instance that is being exhibited in the series of pics I posted earlier, there are 1000 of these civil, family get togethers taking place all over the Southland..........

I wonder how Univision is going to play this one. When I watched a game on that channel last week, they were fully pro-American with US flag ties and lapel pins. What about tonight? Will they placate their Mexican viewership?
