462 posts about soccer. Am I dreaming? And here I thought nobody in the US cared about soccer. None of my buddies in Richmond, VA even know we're playing.

HOLY CARP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The USA won! We are truly master of all sports!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmmmmmm.
I wonder if flying the American flag would be considered insensitive.
Or boorish.
Or jingoisttic.
Or just plain supid.
By Americans in Mexico, that is...

Yup. Reading some of the European press, they're calling Friedel the best goalie in the World Cup. Wow!

Mexico and South America play completely different style from Europe. In those regions art imitates life. Stylized, artistic, individualistic play characterizes Latin Soccer. They have the greatest soccer players pound for pound. But the Euro are the proverbial "team is greater than the sum of the parts". Poland was a glimpse. Germany will crush the USA. Sorry, but that's my pronostication.

Germany will crush the USA. Sorry, but that's my pronostication. I think it all depends on who scores the first goal. Some of the Mexican players said that the US showed a strong counter-attack. We did. If we use the same game plan against Germany we have a chance.
Also rooting for England (relatives over there) and Senegal.

Sorry. Soccer is still as exciting as watching a second coat of paint dry.

Great to see the US win; however, soccer still sucks.

Excellent photo, friend - you bet he owns that box!

Yup. That L.A.. I've seen dozens and dozens of cars sporting Mexican flags in the last week. (A lot also have the Stars and Stripes flying as well.) It could get interesting in some neighborhoods if Mexico loses.Saw one the other day with the Mexico flag on one side of the truck and an upside down American flag on the other.

The Boston Herald's Jerry Callahan on the World Cup:
"I don't like any sport, where we can't beat France"
So can the US beat France?

Things sure got mean on the Opus thread. Talk about your hooliganism!I'm PO'd. Saw the opus thread yesterday morning, had to leave for the entire day, was delighted to see it still alive this morning. I was up to about the 460th reply when I had to surrender the computer to mr. h for a few minutes, and now the darned thread seems to have been pulled.
I missed out on all the mean stuff. :(

Also rooting for England (relatives over there) and Senegal.I didn't realize you were a "real football" fan. Glad to know. I'm also looking at England and Senegal. Senagal just because they're another surprise team this year. I was disappointed to see Ireland get eliminated, though.
GO USA!!!

So can the US beat France? Doesn't matter. The French are home watching on television.
To: demlosers
last year, the German National soccer team lost to the American soccer team, or it may have been 2 years ago. I remember a German newspaper stating it was a disaster to lose to the lowly Americans.
Well we've already beaten them at their "national sport". Twice. >:)

Now Mexico and all the Mexican barrios in the USA can stick those little Mexican flags where the sun doesn't shine!

Well we've already beaten them at their "national sport". Twice. >:) What was the other one, Panzer Relays?

I wonder how many players in the US team were actually born here..I think all of them. World cup soccer teams are based on birth, not citizenship.
